Picked this up at a gun show before the doors opened, he had it marked $800 I got it for less. I had a red Bakelite side folder years ago that I regret selling. Probably won't shoot this one, but am gonna keep it I think? Reciever, bolt carrier, bolt and main spring rod all match numbers. Anyway thought some may enjoy some photo's of it.

Poorly struck importer marks I think it may be SACO?

Norinco 7.62 CHINA

Got a 20 and a 30rd mag with it, not sure if Chinese or not, no markings.

Correct but un-numbered bayonet.

Still had the manual, but tossed the box in 89 when he bought it from a FFL.

What makes your axe a NORINCO Type 56-3 ??? It's the -3 part I don't get. Nice piece. Congrats !!!

Got that nomenclature from a site about Norinco AK's. The Bakelite fixed stock determined the type I guess?

that's a older unmarked one 56-3

Very cool, and one of my favorite AK variants!  I love the red and the blackish-green Chi-Com furniture.

Nice score. All you need is a matching Norinco bakelite magazine.
I never come across deals like that. I also used to have a bakelite sidefolder that I regret selling.

+1 I paid $1450 for a NIB OTD 56S at recent show. Debated as to use as a shooter or safe queen and resell. It will be a shooter made in 1984 and never shot. These are probably the best AK's ever imported into USA....

P.S. Who was the importer? I thought you had a SILE N.Y model...

I believe it is a Sile import, but the name is half struck on the barrel and hard to read.

I sold one for $1550 last year. You got a smoking deal on a great AK.

The stamp almost certainly says:  IACO Sac CA

yes both of those magazines are Chinese. You can tell from the two ribs along the bottom and that the back of the magazine is flat where most have a raised part.

From what I understand these came with the steel mags. I remember my Poly Tech side folder with the red stocks came with the bakelite mags.

To clear up the above posts, that is a 56s-3, the op is correct.  These were also IO Sac imports (lightly barrel stamped to almost undetectable stamped).  They were brought in for movies in 84, so most bleed out of CA to the western states.

Very nice rifle, a collector for sure.

Took just a quick glance at the serial and nearly filled my drawers, because  I'd read the serial as  20 0012  I have a thrashed and weathered  Type 56 - currently lacking a barrel - with the serial 20 0011:O]  crazy!...

P08:  Like yours, my numbers match throughout, including  my gas tube having been electro-penciled - is yours?
As far as finishing goes - with the re-barrel, I may try to re-create the 1/2 weathered look - as though it'd been laying on its side for a long time.... time will tell!
Great find, my heart rate's calmed down enough now.

Alas, my serial number is 200126, the 6 sits a bit higher and not as clear as the other numbers.

Been collecting those magazines for almost twenty years.

I have twenty at this point, and looking for more.

Yes, I'm a mag whore.

You got that thing for ~ 50% off. Score is an understatement. That was a bullseye!

That 20-rd mag is a hen's tooth, too. These "movie guns" are among the coolest Chicom rifles ever imported. Very  nice.
