Are you turning the level the correct way? Yugo HGRs are opposite from other countries
Lever pointed toward the chamber = unlocked Lever pointed toward the muzzle = locked

I was not aware of this being in reverse. Currently the lever is facing the the chamber.
I'll check it out again when I get home as the retainer would not move. |

I pried mine up with a small flat head screwdriver. It took a little force but it moved. I wasn't really worried about the finish as it is never going to be seen by anyone when closed. In any case it was fine after moving it.
What are your plans for the wood? Mine is pretty rough finish wise and I have never done any stock refinishing before. |
