Just got my first AK:

Haven't got it to the range yet, but I've heard from others who have the same one that the front handguard (circled) gets very hot. I'm looking for another one that has a rail for a VFG. Do you know where I can find one?
The railed part (arrowed) is plastic and wobbles, so it wouldn't hold zero with a red dot. Do you know of a way I can make it more stable?

I've got a dozen mags and 900 rounds of 7.62, and a date with some steel gongs next week.

Your best bet for the top rained one, if you want a 922r part, maybe the top of a Hogue set.

But tbh - why is that your first AK?

I'd put real furniture on it, but if you want to run a bastardized bullpup...get rid of those useless sights, replace the gas tube with an ultimak and mount your RDS.  As far as the handguard, wear gloves and/or wrap in 550 cord.  You could possibly screw a rail section on the handguards and add a vfg of your choice.  Not many options for that kit.

I would get a Ultimak tube and have a machine shop rig up a magpul moe handguard up front with some sort of barrel clamp brackets.

The Top Handguard looks exactly like the upper half of a TAPCO AK handguard.

Mounting anything to the handguard on a Gas Tube of an AK is a no win proposition.  They tend to be loose as they have high heat (expansion and contraction) not to mention being able to pull it out and put it back in each time you clean it.

You could use an ULTIMAK to replace the handguard - gas tube , but then you lose the ability to easily remove the gas tube and it is not cheap (at least a $100+)

http://www.primaryarms.com/ultimak-m1-b/p/ultimak%20m1-b/

Maybe you could replace the rear sight with a mount there as that is a solid non moving portion of the rifle.  Look at Atero or strike industries

http://www.primaryarms.com/si-akrr/p/si-akrr/.

Bonus is you could take off the goofy upper rail and the add on upper front sight.

As to the front two part set...  I don't have any clue...  You might try to make some heat shields.

I thought it was one of the ones century put out some time ago?

p.s. it does look like someone did take off the top handguard of the original century one and plonk a tapco one on there though.

It could be or it could be one someone else did but Kvar was still the vendor for the kit to Century. On the ones sold by Century they just pulled the WASR furniture and installed the kit.
