hi all, new to the AK scene, really posting this for my dad as im building an AR.. he's had an AK since before I was born. he acquired it in the 70's or 80's and I was wondering if there was a way to trace its origins I thought he always said it was the Chinese version, but I swear I saw the word New York stamped on it the last time I saw it.. any suggestions?

Post pics.  Especially pics showing the import marks and trunion markings.  And barrel proofs if there are no trunion markings.

^This

It was one of only a few semi-auto AK's available here in the 80's. It's also one of most desirable AK's to own.

Upload them to a hosting sight such as Imgur or Photobucket and link the [ IMG ] tagged link here (without the spaces).

Example, posting this (without the spaces): [ IMG ]http://i.imgur.com/WbWAsNq.jpg[ /IMG ]

Produces this:

Your post count is probably too low. Anything pics you try to post have to be approved before they'll show up.

So does that make it special in any way, or is it just an early import? Someone in an earlier post was saying it's one of the most desirable AKs to own? If so why is that?

It's desirable because it's pre-ban. Nothing special about it except that. There are other AKs imported around the same era that are desired more - Mitchell Yugos, Steyr Maadi's - no name a few. Polytech, which is also Chinese, would be more desirable.

If he does decide to sell it, please do some research before hand so that he knows how much to ask for it.  You don't want him getting ripped off.  That's a nice gun.

Very, very nice. Would it be too much trouble to ask for some closeup pics of the front site assembly, the gas block and bayonet? If you can't get them posted, please send them to me and I'll do it. I keep a library of reference pics and would like to get some of a pristine example such as your dad's AK. I also have a question...it appears the front site assembly has the teeth for the type-1 bayonet, but it has the later style bayonet that locks into the gas block. So is there any clearance problem mounting the bayonet? Thanks.
