I'm looking for a 5.45x39 vs 7.62x39 trajectory chart. I can't find it on the net. Could someone please post a link?

Also, am I behind the times by owning two 7.62x39 AKs and no AK74? Is it worth it to buy an AK74 or should I just stick with the old 47s?

I'm still working on a few new data cards that have details for AK103, but this is the original 7.62x39 for PO 3.5x21P (based on a 300m zero). These data sets are based on zeroing for 300m or 400m and are achieved by having point of impact higher than point of aim at 100.
http://russianoptics.net/400mzero.html

PO 3.5x21P Datacard info:
AKMC 300m zero (POI is 23cm higher than POA at 100m)
50m   = +11cm
100m = +23cm
150m = +29cm
200m = +28cm
250m = +18cm
300m = +0cm
350m = -33cm
400m = -79cm

AK74 and RPK74 data card

PO 3.5x21P Datacard info:
AK74 400m zero (POI is 22cm higher than POA at 100m)
50m = +9cm
100m = +22cm
150m = +32cm
200m = +37cm
250m = +36cm
300m = +32cm
350m = +20cm
400m = 0cm
500m = -64cm

RPK74 400m zero (POI is 18cm higher than POA at 100m)
50m = +9cm
100m = +18cm
150m = +27cm
200m = +31cm
250m = +31cm
300m = +27cm
350m = +16cm
400m = 0cm
500m = -52cm

PK01-VS Datacard info:
AK74 300m zero (POI is 13cm higher than POA at 100m)
50m = +6cm
100m = +13cm
150m = +17cm
200m = +16cm
250m = +11cm
300m = 0cm
350m = -17cm
400m = -43cm
500m = no data

AK74 400m zero (POI is 24cm higher than POA at 100m)
50m = +11cm
100m = +24cm
150m = +33cm
200m = +38cm
250m = +37cm

Owning either of them comes down to personal preferences, and there's plenty of threads here denoting the differences in the two. There's nothing wrong with shooting only one of them. So far as "Is it worth it" to buy a 74, how do you define worth? Investment value? Ammo costs? Fun?

if you have the ability to buy a quality 74 I would do so. You can always sell it if you don't like it.

+1, and since there's a pretty good market for it, if you need to sell it, it will get picked up

Not exactly what you asked for, but hope it'll help with 1/2 of your question.  It's all I gots!  The chart is for 7.62 x 39.

Damn, my AK's are zero'd at 50 yards. Perhaps I need to raise that up some for longer distance.

IMO, if you shoot from 50-100, then site it in for what you do. If you get the chance to shoot at longer distances, it's good to learn what the arc of bullet is. I learned this fro trial and error in my younger days. Charts are nice and could allow for less expenditure of rounds.

ETA: I use to just walk them in, usually 1-3 rounds to get on target, wind dependent.

With the rear sight on '1', 50 yds is the correct zero for 100 yds as you can see on the trajectory posted above. With the rear sight on the 'battlesight' setting (or '3'), you would want to be 11cm high at 50 as shown on the French graph. That's 4.3"! I use the 50 yd zero with rear sight on '1', which also brings the whole sighting range into sync; so if I want to use the 'battlesight' setting it would be approximately correct. For longer ranges I would use the 'battlesight' setting or select the known range out to 1000m on the sight.

I don't understand, Saxman. You use a 50 yd target to zero it at 100 yd?

Crap, I think I did exactly this but with sight set at '0'. Honestly, it was so long ago I can't remember. I do recall over analyzing the shit out of this beforehand, though, so maybe I'm good. Either way, I guess I need to get my AK's out to the range soon.

That all depends on sight height as well. . my (irons) if you will are at a 25 yard zero . . actually a TWS rear peep but same height as factory sights. My optic is almost 4 inches above the barrell its set at a 50 yard zero. . but it zeros again at 200 yards.  Sight height is very reletive to the trajectory chart
