This is my Romanian WASR after I refinished the wood.  The photo's are not great but you get the idea.
Wood:  I did a basic sanding, then 3 coats RIT Scarlet Red/Rubbing alcohol mix, 2 coats MinWax Sedona Red stain, 4 coats Tung oil (low gloss),took 3 nights.
Metal:  Just rubbed/buffed with coarse Scotch-Brite pad varying pressure/duration of the buffing.

Thanks for looking,

Look great man...I am also using that Tapco slot brake, just tested the first time last week...what are your thoughts on it?  I did notice some felt recoil reduction...but I can see a good bit of flash from it.

Not exactly new - I've had her for months - but this is the first time she's been out of the box since I got her.

When (if ever!) I get the parts I need she'll be reborn as a "factory" M70B1.

No, I'm not saying there's something wrong with it.
It's actually beautiful.
I've never seen screws instead of rivets though. Preference thing? Or is there an advantage to them?

There is zero advantage and I prefer rivets over screws. Screws will eventually losen and back out. Applying loctite will fix the problem. For a while anyways. The reason I have a screw built krink is because I got it from a friend for an extremely low price. I did not build it that way. I will say though- it has lasted many thousands of rounds and performed flawlessly.

All fun and games until the rackets come out.

The AK purist in me is having a tough time though. I would like to have a TWS cover or Ultimak gas tube so I can have an optic of some sort; but, I still kinda want to keep it stock. I would use the side optic mount, but then I can't close the stock on it.

So conflicted.

Closing stock is over rated imo. Unless for transportation. As for scopes and the side mou t, check zens website, russianoptics.net or something like that. I believe most of the side rail optics return to zero when dismounted and remounted.

I'm also a firm believer in the ultimak and Microsoft dot. I fought the whole cowitness thing for a while, but have to say it's my favorite set up.

I don't have any qualms with the UM rail and Micro dot red dot. Hell, I picked up a Gen II PA Micro Dot as a Christmas present for someone and kinda 'mocked' it up on my 74. It's just the purist in my that has a problem with it. However, I do think that setup looks  better with a triangle folder, rather than the poly folder.

Maybe some people should post up their 74's with Ultimak / Micro dot combos to persuade me.

ETA: I'm also kinda weary about one thing: how does the micro dot hold up due to the risk of heat? If I went that setup route I'd move it as far back as possible on the rail; but, I do notice on rapid strings that the gas block gets hot enough to give off a slight heat mirage.

TRS-25, and never had a problem with heat. Of course I don't do mag dumps either, but this setup gas seen well over 3k rounds just on my krink.
