That's not how you do it.

Maybe try using the detent and spring that all AK's have, and for which your brake likely has a cut-out?

ETA:  Here's a pic explaining what I'm on about.  Plus it's a pic thread.

Well I'm finally done with my AK build! Started life as an Arsenal SLR-107-F and the only things remaining are the bolt, top cover, barrel and front block. Frankly it's more fun to shoot than my AR's! A real thinking man's gun.

And this is from 25 yards, standing, 6 Palm mags with 1-3 rounds in each necessitating tac mag changes and there were 3 dummy rounds interspersed in there for a challenge.

That "sniper" sure is keen on giving away a dust signature with his incorrectly-timed brake.

Is that an RPG optic?

Yep! It's the Chinese version, it comes with a smaller rail mount that doesn't fit a standard AK rail. I milled down an inexpensive aluminum mount to adapt it. I wanted to see how it would work out before I buy a steel mount from Kalinka Optics and do the same.

Thanks, it was a fun build. It's still not done, as I'm experimenting with forced patina with vinegar.

US- rust blued AK-Builder flat, G2 trigger kit, old RSA gas piston, AK-Builder muzzle nut
Yugo- Centerfire M70 lottery barrel
Romanian- trigger guard, front trunnion, bolt, cleaning rod
Polish- underfolder assembly, bolt carrier, top cover, recoil assembly
Bulgarian- front sight, gas block, handguard retainer, rear sight block
Russian- AKM handguards from Sasha

I didn't like the bare bolt carrier (NOS from RobertRTG), so I swapped it out for a used Polish unit. Also swapped out the Polish pistol grip for a Romanian.

I debated leaving the barrel alone and using M70 handguards/gas tube, but I had the perfect set of Soviet wood laying around. Filled the old slot with TIG, carefully filed the step down a bit, made new slot with Dremel.

Agreed, me like.  What cheek piece is that on the underfolder?  Looks like a simple molded piece of Kydex which is a pretty good idea.
