I don't have the tools to do this, but has anyone thought of taking an ultimak railed gas tube,  mark off where they would mount a red dot and or light,  then mill off the rest of the rail down to a round tube and shave off weight?

original UltiMAKs were like that.

The Ultimak is lighter than the original gas tube. I don't think it would even be noticeable.

I think it would look a lot more slick.  Anyone have a link to the original ultimaks that were like this?  I have my micro dot pushed all way to the back...never use the forward portion of the rail.

Same,  that's why I asked. If I had a mill I'd give it a shot.

The alloy used to make the ultimak is so light that your weight savings would be unnoticed. I would guess a half ounce or less.

Dremel to the rescue.

You could use a belt sander, a Dremel sanding wheel or a hand sander.  Just be careful to not remove too much.
