So I'm wanting to get a rail on my ak so I can mount some optics in it. It doesn't have the side bracket and I don't feel like drilling holes in the receiver so I was thinking of going with a rail assembly that replaces the rear sight and screws into the tang. These are done that I've been looking at.

I'm sure I'd get what I pay for with the krebs but if I can get a scope mount that holds zero for $90 I would rather like to save the other $200. I'm not a huge fan of the Texas weapon systems just because I don't trust the take down button to hold the scope at zero.

Also, does anyone know what UTG stands for? I've been trying to find some info on them but I can't find their site (if they have one).

They started out making really cheap parts that were said to be intended for airsoft, but many have reported the quality of their parts has really increased. They're like the value meal at McDonalds. It'll work but it's probably not the best and may upset your stomach at some point. I think they own the Leapers brand too.

You will, it is absolutely top notch.  Excellent design, fantastic quality, perfect return to zero, and the best rear sight in the business.



I winced at the price when I  bought mine, but I believe it was money very well spent.  The quality remains long after the sticker shock wears off.



 

UTG = cheap, airsoft-quality, most made in China
UTG Pro = more expensive but still fairly cheap, higher quality, made in the USA
