Effective and worth $100 or gimmick?
I've heard reports of them coming loose. Any truth to that?

I just bought/installed one last week..... once it is torqued to spec it is solid,  the new version includes a spot to drill for a pin(which I haven't done yet)

when you say pin, do you mean to make it an adjustable gas block?

The pin is supplemental to pin it in place, instead of just using the bolts.

+1   There are a lot of stories about the Gen 1 blocks without the ability to pin, moving after a number of rounds,  Mine it not pinned currently and is still holding fine after about 350 rounds....  however, I plan to pin it anyway for that extra peace of mind.

I had heard those stories as well. Would a spot weld on the front also do the trick? The ability to pin it in place sounds great.

I always wanted one but they are expensive and I didn't have the right tools to remove the old hardware. When the M10 came out I sold my WASR and about broke even picking up the M10.
