The Magpul PMAG30 AK74 was designed to be compatible with a wide variety of 5.45 Kalashnikov pattern rifles. Design elements have been included to improve fit in some outlying rifles whenever doing so could be done without affecting fit and performance in Bulgarian, Polish, and Russian pattern “in-spec” rifles. We have stayed inside all of the nominal dimensions for Com-Bloc polymer magazines.
Some SAR-2 and ROMAK 5.45 rifles from Cugir arsenal may show interference between the back corner of the magazine and the receiver center support rivet, as they were designed with only steel magazines in mind, which have a smaller front-trunnion-engagement-to-top-rear-of-feed-lip dimension than all Com-Bloc polymer magazines, including C10, C21, Tantal poly, Russian, and E. German bakelite. Many 5.45 guns come with a notched center support rivet to address this very issue and allow the easy use of Com-Bloc polymer magazines. Any rifle with a notched center support rivet will be fine. Many that are not notched will also be fine. Some will not.
If you have an affected SAR-2 or ROMAK rifle, you can address the issue to allow unaltered PMAG and all Com-Bloc polymer magazine usage by installing a notched center support rivet. You may also modify magazines to clear the existing rivet. It is recommended that any material removal first come from the front of the magazine where it engages the front trunnion in the insertion arc, and only take material off the feed lip corners as absolutely necessary for best results. Feeding performance should not be affected by these modifications.
