just wondering how much these mags have increased in price over the years

Bought some at a gun show over a decade ago for $8 a piece.  Felt stupid at the time because new East German steel mags were $5.  This was of course before kvar had exclusive distribution of them from Arsenal of Bulgaria.  Monopoly leads to $40+ price tag.  It has to be more expensive to manufacture the steel mags.  Yet newly manufactured yugo and Serbian mags are selling for $10 while kvar gets whatever they want.  It is all about monopoly and control of how many are on the market.  Kvar could import more but would likely have to sell them for a lower price to keep from sitting on so many.  It is more profitable for them to sell less at a huge markup.

This.  Chinese were 75¢ each 5 / 10/ 30 rounders.  Drums were $19.  Euro mags were in the $6-$8 range.

5.45 mags were in the $3 range when I bought mine.

I always found K-Var way over priced with 0% customer service.

Yeah, he had some sweet krink kits too. He really kicked k-var square in the nuts on pricing.

Holy God.  People would shit a brick if they saw that today.

I passed up the sub $10 waffles because I thought they looked stupid and were gonna break since they were made out of cheap plastic. Same deal with the $3 bakelite 5.45's.

Spent all my mag dough on E. German steels. Probably one of the best mags fit/finish wise, but no cool factor like the waffles.

I just bought a brand new one at a pawn shop for ten bucks. Later, I found a Russian OTK-2 marked sling for five bucks.

Deals are out there, you just have to be Johnny on the spot.

If I'm paying $40 and up for an AK magazine, it better be bakelite with clear ink stamps.

The whole AK collecting game is getting ridiculous. Some of this stuff is being artificially inflated to WWII curio and relic price ranges, and that's insane.

I'd be curious to the nature of the existing import arrangement(s).  Do Arsenal/K-VAR have an exclusive?  Is it Arsenal Bulgaria being full retard on pricing and they are just passing it on?  Could another importer start bringing them in?

I'd like to see the 5.56 waffles come back down.  I didn't mind the 20-25 range but it's dead to be me at current pricing.

At the current AK74 mag prices the gougers can keep them or keep selling to those who have to much spare money. I've asked Tapco to come out with smooth sided 5.45 mags. They are "looking into that".

$20 was as cheap as I ever got them for when DS Arms use to stock em. I wont pay anything near what they charge now. I hope the 2nd Gen magpul mags are as good so we have another option.
