What to use for carbon removal from a four piece flash hider?  Mine is black after 100 rounds.  The cone part that is.  The inside cleaned up pretty well, but the outside is encrusted in carbon.

Thanks for any tips.

Any carbon removal chemical that won't harm the finish or the metal.
Some people use automotive carbon cleaner chemicals, but some of these may harm finishes.

For a firearms-specific carbon remover, I've had good luck with Slip 2000 Carbon Killer.

I just drop in a bottle of solvent and let soak while.  For cleaning I use a shotgun bronze bore brush, stiff enough to do the job but soft enough to get in tight places.  Then a shotgun bore mop with a patch over it.  Gets the crud out pretty fast.

I also use mild steel wool with solvent on the inside of the flash suppressor occasionally.
