Shouldn't this be made a sticky? The question seems to pop up often enough.

i got some more kerosean for my heater.will try to do some more work soon.this would be a good sticky when the project is finished.still have to do triggerguard, rear trunnion, and headspace and refinish.i will take pics and document all the things the best i can.i am going with alumhyde 2 in semi gloss for the finish.that is what looks closest to the original finish.you guys should grab 1 of these kits while you can.good deal for the price and not often seeing a arabic marked kit.putting the parts on the barrel is not hard even if you do not have a press, you could use some imagination and a hammer.

God hates me! All the writing on that rifle and rear site is awesome, however I am broke as hell! By the time I can afford one they will all be gone or $500....oh well, I will live vicariously through you. Excellent tutorial also, good job! Can't wait to see the finished product.

45FMJoe

i used a dremel tool with a carbide cutter i got at sears to egg out the holes.as you see i had to egg out a couple of holes alot, but the ak trunnion and rivits are very forgiving.i crushed the rivits and the holes filled in with no problem.

Nice work. How do you plan on refinishing, and are you going to try to save the Egyptian markings?

going to paint it with alumhyde 2 semi gloss.that looks near to original.the arabic markings will not be affected by the paint.i will use a whiting stick after it is painted to highlite the markings.you get the sticks from brownells.here is a gsg5 highlited with their paint sticks.

Are you going to blast first. The reason I am asking is I was looking at my kit and the Egyptian markings are shallow and I would not want to loose the markings if I blasted it.

NDS does not do the Egyptian selector markings. There are a couple for people in the link below who are working on engraving plates. i will probably get one of them to do mine when i get everything together.
