What cleaning rod do ya'll use?  Need something around 30" for .223/5.56.  Where do you purchase yours from?

Thanks

Dewey all the way, if you use steel make sure it has a coating on it or you use a guide.

Exactly which Dewey rod do you guys go with for an ar15? I'm seeing different lengths on Brownells site.

That all depends on the barrel lengths you have to clean it with. You just buy the length you need, no real mystery there.

Just use a tape measure and measure from the rear of the upper receiver to the muzzle.
Buy a rod a few inches longer then that.

I have multiple guns so bought a longer one to be able to use on all the barrel lengths.   If money is not an issue you can purchase a couple to work with different length barrels.   Bolt gun vs AR.

In my experience a 36" rod(working length) works best for your typical 16" AR-15 with a bore guide. I use a 30" on my 14.5's and it's barely long enough.

30" rod is long enough with any standard bore guide.
I could use 26" rod with JP bore guide on 16" AR with 1/2" of working length exposed past flash hider.

Do y'all prefer stainless steel Dewey rods over the nylon coated Dewey rods?

I like Pro Shot.  I have their pistol cleaning rod, and an older stainless rod I use to clean all the rifles.  I've thought about getting more.  I've had it for years and it's held up great.  I have their bore guide for the AR, and it is very nice.

I have some Dewey stuff, but not any of their rods (well, the AR chamber rod).  They also make good stuff.

Me too, one long and one short for my various rifles.  The carbon fiber, impregnated with epoxy, will not scratch steel and will not pick up grit.  They are also very strong.  Highly recommended. - CW
