If you use CLP in a chrome lined barrel and put the gun in storage for a year. Will the CLP protect the barrel from rust for a full year? Assume conditions are average, not very humid and not desert dry stored indoors and not in a basement.

This is the regular CLP. I can't really get a definite answer when searching.

Thanks

I have several guns that sit for a year or more and no signs of rust. clean well and patch dry and I mean dry. I have never put oil in my bbl on any gun I own

for the past 30 years and never a sign of rust on any of them. I do use grease and some oil on moving parts but just enough to coat them lightly.

When I lived by the ocean (50ft from beach), regular break free clp wouldn't protect some of my guns for more than a month or two.  When I switched to froglube clp, I could leave them untouched for a year without any corrosion. That was an extreme environment, but the FL was clearly better at long term protection.  Tbh tho the inside of the bore will probably be fine as long as it's clean and there's no moisture inside it.  You might want to put a dessicant packet inside your safe/case if you'reworried about moisture.

Assuming conditions are Inside The House Average CLP will protect just fine.
Where people get into trouble is storing them in improper places, as example in basements or closets where clothing is also stored, or in handling them and not wiping them down with more CLP before storing again.

If you're storing in a safe of air tight gun cabinet you do need some sort of moisture control like a Golden Rod or desiccant packs.
The best place to store them is in a non-air tight cabinet in a dry room.

Yes, it should be fine.

On Navy ships we use CLP, some of the guns sit in a locker for 6+ months until the next maint cycle. No rust. Ive been deployed almost a year and none of my own guns rusted either. Chrome lining greatly increases the rust resistance to the point where a clean dry bore would be fine for several years.

Might try the WD40 Specialist corrosion spray.  I've been impressed with it so far.  Note:  this is not regular WD40 (although WD40 really isn't a bad rust preventative) but the Specialist stuff is pretty good.

I'm sure CLP would work fine too though.

If you were my next door neighbor I would say yes.
Who knows under your conditions.

What flavor of CLP are you talkin about?  I used Breakfree CLP (I feel it is a very good CLP) for many years and never had any rust issues whatsoever even over extended periods of time.  However, I have switched over to Froglube CLP and haven't looked back YMMV.  I have no connection to the above companies I just use some of their kit.  EDA content.

"...chrome lined barrel..."

chrome don't rust unless it is defective.

patch #1: heavily moisten with lube (mobil 1, CLP, etc), then PULL through barrel;

patch #2: dry (no lube), then PULL through barrel;

store rifle.

Note: this only applies to CL barrel portion of a rifle - other parts have other lube reqs.

I've had untreated, steel,  barrels stored for 10 years with no rust.
