Son has a S&W AR. Called me last night, had a FTF, tried to manually eject.  In messing around, closed the dust cover. The cartridge(unfired) is stuck, Bolt handle is stuck, cant open action.  I googled,  sent him to video on "mortoring" technique(slamming but down), no go. can't get to bolt(cover closed), can't open/separate upper/lower.  Suggestions?

Have him pop the takedown pins and then smack the upper receiver forward by hitting the back of the charging handle. That should create enough separation to get the upper and lower apart.
The BCG is probably just enough out of battery that it's catching on the lip of the receiver extension.

Mortaring has nothing to do with the dust cover being closed.
