I bought the same upper a couple of months ago on the Fathers day sale. I think for the money it's a great buy. No, you can't buy the parts and save. The hand guard alone is $150.

The only real advantage of building your own over that one you saw on sale was that you can spread out the purchases of parts over a couple of months. It may cost you more, but it won't be as big of a one time hit to your bank account.
