Lets say I wanted to paint the center of the Noveske logo a color, not the outlining.  (although the outline will get paint as well)

This would be on a standard melonite coated, forged stripped lower. What would be the best paint to use?  What comes to mind right off the bat would be Testors enamels.

Given the size of the logo, a "can" of anything would be WAY too much waste (thinking ceracoat). So a small testors bottle would be perfect material wise.

Since the paint is not going to be protected by the recessed lines will this enamel hold up?  Has anyone done this before? I've got to believe so.

Thoughts ?

I used testor model paint on two of my fire control marking with success. Its easy to do I used a q tip in the paint and liberal put the paint on the marking. I let it dry then I used paint remove on another Q tip to get the extra paint off. You may have to use the paint thinner q-tips a few time to get all the extra paint off. Use them lightly so you do not remove all the paint from the marking. So far the paint has held up and this is after a lot of wear and tear on that rifle. Its been in dirt, rain, heat and no problems.

One thing before you use it make sure the surface is free of any oil.

Your lower is most likely anodized, not Nitrided/Melonited

Anodized - haha you're are both correct. I'm still programming in my noodle all the correct coatings etc. This is my first build and I've taught myself everything I know about ARs' (which ain't much) since December.

I've got another post in here somewhere where I asked about the identity of some hardware, so this is for that build. I'll post pictures of her once I'm 100% complete and try to remember to revisit this post with an update on my project. I'm kind of shy about my "projects in da works"

Ok, so here is my plan, I'm pretty good with a brush (years of building models) and have an airbrush. The main logo I'll do via brush one color with the airbrush for shadows and highlights ... what I have in my head will look boss if it I can get it out of my head successfully.

Oh, and to whomever warned me about the dastardly BGD, too late. not even 100% complete on my first AR15 and I've got partial parts for "Thumper" my .458 SOCOM build.

Just being technical here, melonite isnt a coating but rather a treatment. Ive also used crayons before, worked pretty good but I removed it a month later.

If you are going to do a .458 SOCOM I must STRONGLY advise you to check out .458 SOCOM FORUMS.  For a barrel and bolt, use a correctly chambered barrell, not a PTG knock-off, that means use a TROMIX, Rock River, SBR, SSK, or Red Creek Tactical.  If you want a great price and from the guy who developed the .458 SOCOM around the AR platform in conjunction with the developer of the round itself, Marty ter Weeme of Teppo Jutsu, then get a TROMIX barrel and bolt.  He has the best prices, highest level of machining skill, knows more about the .458S than all others combined, and has the stock for immediate shipping.  TROMIX also sells modified upper receivers (ejection port enlarged) but if you have a particular upper in mind, Paladin Machine Shop Service (tp555(at)windstream.net) can modify any upper for you at a rock bottom price with the highest quality of machining.

Da'Fuq?

ETA:  Did I miss something?  What does painting a logo have to do with a barrel and bolt for a 458 Socom?

My research showed TROMIX as being the originator and also a vendor I figured that they were the ones to go to. RRA would be a good 2nd choice IMO.

"what was my other name?" ... sry different forum. When you get to be my age, you'll know.

well .. with the exception of the Punisher logo getting painted (not filled) I'm 99% done.

Long story short, uppers and lowers have been on national back order for some time now. (the specific items I wanted) That is not to say that you can't find ANY lowers or uppers, just not the good ones! I wanted the ST punisher lower with their enhanced trigger group and that is still not available. What I did find was a Punisher stripped lower and a ST lower with an enhanced trigger group. (light bulb!!)  SO I ordered them both and have what I wanted plus the lower for my next build. I’ll move the enhanced trigger and related hardware from the vanilla lower into the Punisher lower once I'm happy with the paint.

Parts list:
ST Billet upper.
ST Forged lower. (inc. buffer tube & ST-T2 buffer)
Black Rain Ordnance nickel boron bolt & carrier group
AXTS Raptor Ambi-charging handle.
Faxon Arms 16” 416R heavy fluted barrel mid length (chambered in 5.56 NATO)
Black Rain Ordnance low profile adjustable gas block.
Phase5 FATman Hex Brake
Vytamen C Tactical 16” urban assault hand guard.
American Defense AD-RECON-PB scope mount.
Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24
Magpul MBUS Gen 2 Flip-Up sights
Phase5 revolving sling attachment solution (REVO)
Magpul ACS-L Carbine Stock
(16) Magpul PMAG 30 Window GEN M3 MOE

And now the gun porn…
