So I'm doing a Spikes build right now.  3rd build, but this one will be my designated home defense, SHTF, whatever I need it for rifle.  14.5 inch mid length barrel, spikes t2 buffer, and will have a fail zero bcg.  Anyways, I want a device that reduces recoil so I can stay on target, but still reduces flash.  I realize it's a bit of one or the other, so I will have to compromise a bit.  Doesn't have to be non existent flash, just don't want much worse than an A2.  Does this exist?  Any input is appreciated.

Unless you register it as a SBR, then your options are rather limited.

Right, I'll need something at least 1.5 inches and pin it on.

edit:  how is the PWS FSC556?

I have not heard of that one, but it looks right along the lines of what i'm looking for.  What are we looking at for flash at night, compared to A2?

My go-to option for "permanently attached" muzzle devices is the Yankee Hill Phantom 5C2.

It's one of the most effective flash suppressors available, and also one of the cheapest, except for the A2 birdcage and the "classic" 3-prong design that preceded it. On a 14.5" barrel, it brings total length to about 16.25". And the serrated front version can be used for opening locks or as a compliance/motivational tool.

2" with crush washer, 2-1/8 without.  The threaded portion comprises 5/8" or the 14.5" tube's length.  A standard A2 birdcage is 1-3/4", and will come up short; that's why 14.7" barrels exist.

My solution was to make my own from 6Al-4V ELI Titanium.  It is a 2.3" brake, bringing my barrel to 16.2", and is .748" in diameter, so I can slide gas blocks over it:

But this is a brake only, does nothing for flash.

I like the Troy Claymore for a good flash reducing linear comp, but if you pin one, you'd better be happy with your gas block and hand guard arrangement.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys.  It's looking like I may get a few and test them.  Cant make up my mind haha.

I would look hard at the griffin flashcomp. I believe it satisfies each of your requirements nicely.

Have the PWS FSC556 on two rifles and I love it for the compensating flat shooting and also decent flash hider.

Supposed to be one of the best of both worlds and should bring you to length

I saw a comparison video that showed the J-comp (Japanese comp) from Strike Industries as the best flash hider/muzzle brake combination out of the bunch he tested.  It's also one of the most affordable at $30.  I'm putting it on a new rifle build I'm doing but can't test it out until my new rail comes in the mail. It's 1.5 inches so it should bring your barrel to 16 inches.

Hard decision but I ended up buying the 2A armament t3 from primary arms.  I will not be welding it on until I've tested it on my pistol lower and am satisfied with the performance though.  I may be buying others if I'm not satisfied.   Thanks for the replies and I'll keep you updated!

Let us know what you think. It will bark some flame on a short barrel, but should still function well.

It'll be a 14.5 barrel, just on my pistol lower so I dont have to weld anything on yet.  I will definitely report back!
