Hello guys. Narrowing my list of parts down, but as most am still struggling with which barrel I want. Below is a list of specs I am looking for and was hoping one of you had some insight or could point me in the right direction. The barrel is for a 16 in SHTF middy build.
What I am looking for - CHF govt profile mid-length - 4150 CMV or "machine gun steel" - chromed lined chamber and bore - 5.56 Nato or .223 Wylder - 1:7-1:8 twist - extended M4 feed ramps - magnetic particle and high pressure tested - factory installed/pinned A2 F- marked FSB (parkerized under FSB if it is fac. installed) I know Daniel Defense has one and Spikes may still have one made by FN. Please let me know your feedback and if you have any suggestions on others. Thanks! |

Also if you guys know of armor that will pin and do a great job if I find what I like in a barrel that doesn't come with it.... This will be my first build so...

IMO look for a Palmetto Mid length CHF barrel and that will get you what you want. You may have to buy the upper, and the prices the way they are now, you will be saving cash by going that route.

This should fit the bill

Thank you for the quick responses, but I'm actually looking for just the striped barrel with the FSB. Everything else I will be putting together myself (ie upper assembly.) Apologies if I was unclear... That is a solid choice however...

[#5]
I love my DD 14.5" barrel. I got it as a barrel assembly - barrel, FSB (installed), gas tube and delta ring assembly/barrel nut - straight from Daniel Defense for my M4 clone. It's a great barrel.

Id get a PSA chf upper on sale, scavenge the barrel and either sell the leftovers or keep for future use and still come out ahead in cost on a DD barrel assembly or spikes for that matter. That's my opinion.

I am looking for a 10.5 myself with similar specs. I am probably going to go with PSA CHF 10.5 since I heard that FN makes their barrels who happen to also make Spikes' CHF barrels.

I have the PSA (FN) CHF uppers in 10.5 and 14.5. Would recommend either that fit the need. Great barrels and solid uppers. Both are utility weapons for me, although the 10.5 gets plenty of time on a pistol lower blasting tula at steel plates. I'm considering another 10.5 to scope out, maybe 2-7x as a ranch rifle. QCB style works well on critters from a quad.
ETA: Almost forgot, there's the 10.5 <----- there |

The lengths and gas port distances may differ but you should be able to see the differences in countour. another contour is is the M4A1 which offers a thicker area just beyond the chamber area to control barrel whip and assist with heat absorption. The extra weight on the nose of a govt contour is simple parasitic weight. It really does little to nothing for quality of the barrel, the most important area to have more mass is back by the chamber. Stiffens and provides mass for heat to disburse. That doesn't mean the other barrels are bad, just means they may heat up more especially during full auto use.
