I just want one that will light up a coyote at night at 50-60 yards.  Don't need a "combat" or "tactical" or any such light.  Just "functional".

Style of handguard? Type of battery? LED or incandescent?

Streamlight TLR1 or Inforce.

Surefire G2X Tactical with whatever version of ring mount will work with your handguard setup.  Probably put you close to $75ish between the light and mount.

Streamlight protac rail lights are $100'ish with mount and tape switch

This.  Grab an Arisaka mount (they are U.S. made, and awesome) and a G2X and you will be set up pretty good for fairly cheap.

The 800 lumen TLR1 is my standard long gun light, but they are not inexpensive.  The long gun version with pad activation (#69262) is ~ $160 - $180 and 100% reliable; I use these on my ARs.  The TLR1 (#69260) without the pad and activates with a light mounted lever is ~ $120 - $140; I use this on my pump shotgun.

Second this, for the $ you cannot beat the G2x tactical + less expensive mount. I own a handful of other lights like Surefire scouts, but on a budget they are excellent. They aren't "weapon lights," but they sure as hell work well mounted on weapons

G2 or tlr1 are your best options.

I have the g2x on both of my rifles, if that says anything. I wouldn't hesitate to put a tlr1 on them though. My g19 has had a tlr3 on it for well over a year now.

The g2x and a mount will run you less than the tlr1, but the latter will perform better overall, just because it's actually meant to be a weapon light.

I actually have this set up as well on one of my rifles....  I love it.

My answer will not be Very well received on here but here it goes.  I have bought two Communite lights of Amazon.  They are not near as streamlined or compact as the others mentioned but they don't break the bank.  Right now I have a green one mounted on an ar and it will light up a target at 70 yards enough for me to see it through my red dot.  The white light is brighter and shines farther.  For less than $20 you get the light with a tail cap switch plus pressure switch, the rail mount, recharable battery and charger.  I am looking for a TLR-1 on my local forum as my next light.  Now I will go be poor somewhere else.

Another vote for a G2X and Arisaka, here. It's on mine.

Maybe Im missing something but does Arisaka make any mounts that will attach to the standard picatinny rails? Looking for something simple to attach my G2X to my Larue. Everything I am seeing on their website is built for keymod or m-lok handguards

Surefire G2X tactical and cheapo Kley-Zion mounts for me. Bout a $75 combo. Don't have anything on my first AR yet, but have this setup mounted on both my 10/63 and MAK90:

Honestly don't see what the big advantage of anything more expensive would be, especially in regards to attaching it to your rifle. Not like you need precision machined, return-to-zero mounting for a flashlight.

I can also attest to the durability, lighting quality, and throw as I took one with me last year when I visited family in rural Philippines for 5 weeks. Thing was a lifesaver at night and easily lit up paths 50+ yards ahead at night.

Any M951 you pluck off of the EE or Ebay, plus a Malkoff M61 LED ($39.99), gives you a great quality 325 lumen light with a lifetime warranty.

Streamlight TLR series.  I have a TLR1HP (big bezel 400 yard throw) that I like to run on my rifle and really like it.

It's the batteries that will kill your budget.   Hour, hour and a half runtime for a couple bucks in batteries.

I would suggest something that takes 18650 rechargeable cells.    Example - Protac HL-X or Malkoff MD2

There are cheaper lights that cost half as much and also take either 18650's or CR123's, but I don't keep on top of which ones are good to go.   I have a pair of Fenix lights that have trucked on for years.   The nicer lights above will be a better bet with weapon recoil, though.

I suggest getting a Armytek Dobermann Pro. many lumen options, and very high candela rating. Im planning on getting this model myself.

I gave one of my buddies an Armytek Predator light for Coyotes as well and he loves it. Potted electronics, water resistant and able to use 18650, so you don't burn money on batteries.

Arisaka and Arson machine have great mounting options.

I'm using the TLR-1 right now and I think they are perfect for rifles. I have the 300 lumen version, in your case I would get the 800 lumen TLR-1.

Fenix flashlight.  Tk 16 is their latest model I think. Like $80.00.
