i have the surefire g2x tac, but i think its a bit too bulky for wearing it in the pocket.
what do you think about the protac 1l or do you recommend a different one?

The Fenix LD09 has worked very well for me.  Plenty of light and great battery life

There really are a ton of decent small flashlights on the market these days, for single CR123 lights alone there are some great offerings from EagleTac, FourSevens, Fenix, and of course Surefire, to compete with the Streamlight Protac 1L. If you have some more requirements we can probably help you narrow down your options a bit, any info on how much you are looking to spend, how you plan to carry it, what you plan to use it for, battery or runtime requirements, switch mechanism/mode preferences, etc. would be great.

For instance when choosing my EDC I wanted something that would: fit in the watch pocket of my jeans next to my Swiss Army Knife, use rechargeable batteries, have at least 3 modes with one of them being moonlight/firefly for preserving night adapted vision, had a neutral tint LED and wouldn't break the bank. I wound up with great little single AA light with 4 modes (including moonlight) and a Nichia 219 LED that I really do seem to use almost every day.

Agreed that's one to look at if it's in your budget.    For pocket carry I'd probably go non-crenelated bezel.

$142 shipped for an Alpha here.

My review FWIW:

+1 for the Streamlight Microstream, but I use a Fenix E12 almost everyday at work and I'd prefer a AA battery but up to you OP. The LD09 is probably worth looking at too. Both under $40 for 130 Lumens and well built with a decent warranty.

lets get a bit more detailed:

- should fit in a jeans pocket (front sides)
- should have at least 100lumen
- batterystyle doesnt matter
- shouldnt be more expensive than 50 bucks

i think the fenix ld02 will fit great...

For less than $50, Fenix is still probably your best bet.

I carry a Fenix LD01 all day, every day. I don't even notice it's there until I need it.

This is how I carry it in my back left pocket with my wallet. I've tried pocket clips before but I always brake them. Been using this method
for a few years now. The clip is actually from the ITP A3 Eos 1xAAA light that the LD01 replaced.

What are the chances that you can improve the pocket clips on these?  I would buy one in a heartbeat, however, the clip is horrible (bulky and not as functional) compared to the Surefire E1B/EB1.

Very bright for it's size.  Like, will hurt your eyes in daylight bright.  Put it on a keyring, zipper pull, car ash tray, etc.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on it just from pics but I haven't tried it. I might just have to get it and see as Elzetta has always been extremely easy to deal with before. I doubt I'd have an issue if I didn't like it.

Pelican 1910 $25

Streamlight Protac 1AAA $30

Get something in AAA, they disappear in a pocket. I did a bunch of research looking for something similar to your criteria.

I wound up with a Surefire Titan, which is nice, but the lack of button on the back was unsatisfactory to me.

The two lights above both have clicky tailcaps and plenty of light.

Or the S1 if you don't want the built in recharging.
Have both, been nothing but pleased with them for edc.
Lot of light for fifty bucks or less, and olight is pretty
active and communicative in flashlight guy circles.

When I need a "real" light it's a 6p-sized someting
surefire/malkoff-ish in a belt holster.  Honestly the
better asian lights are pretty darn good these days, it's
a tuff market and they have had to step up.

Food for thought... I'm sure I'll get all of the hate here..

I used to have a 6p that I carried, and it sucked. Too heavy and I'm in ems, I used my lights ALL the time. Lots of 123s. I got a streamlight stylus pro, but I kept losing it. After I went through 4 or 5 I picked up a ultrafire wf-501b for like 11 bucks. The new ones are SO much better than the old ones. A $25 night core charger was a big plus too. The rechargeable 18650 batteries are cheap and I get decent run time out of them. This is my everyday duty light.

My EDC pocket light is the ultrafire Q5 based light. I run a 5 mode with no memory, which isn't ideal but they run around 5 bucks a piece. I buy 5 at a time, when I lose one oh well. I get a new one out of the drawer and a new battery out of the 10 I have charged and ready on the shelf. If my life depended on it (mil or law enforcement) I'd spend the money on 123s and happily carry a g2x, but it doesnt. And my tiny little ultrafire pocket light is beastly bright for its size. I'm not saying it's the right light for anyone in particular, but it's the right light for me!

I just picked up a Fenix LD02 and couldn't be happier.  I was also looking for a good all around EDC light that used regular AAA batteries for ease.  It is very small, quite rugged it seems and very bright with 3 settings.  Only $30 shipped through Amazon.

I've been EDC'ing a flashlight for a couple of decades now.  I've carried Surefires, Streamlight, Fenix, Nitecore, and Eagletac (to name a few).

I prefer small EDC lights that I can carry inside my pocket.  I also prefer lights that use 1xAA/14500 batteries due to their availability.

My current EDC flashlight is the Eagletac D25a Clicky.  It's bright enough and tough enough.  And so far, its been very reliable.

Yes, the best are single cell lithiums.  But don't be fooled,  you only get 900 lumens from the EC11 using the rechargable battery.  The CR123 gives about 1/2 the output. But still very good.

I have the older EX11, single cell CR123.  Very small.  Not quite as light as a AAA flashlight, but much more power and duration.  And actually shorter than a AAA light.

How long does full output last though, a lot of lights have a giant output with fresh battery, but begin to dim immediately.

I like two cell AA or 123 lights but I picked one of these up for my wife and it's an excellent light so far. Nice floody beam with moderate output on the first mode, good switch and a decent clip. It's quite nice for the money.
