I know most of you who are or were in the Army or the Military, you were issued Crew Served Weapon Lights such as Surefire or SOCOM issued Insight WMX200.
But what about handheld flashlights?
Does the military issue handheld lights or does one get to purchase their own handheld light whenever they go on deployment?

Issued, ha ha.  The Inforce 9V was handy.

No handhelds were issued. I used my petzl headlamp 90% of the time. Had my surefire g2 go missing day 3 into my deployment.

The Army IS part of the military. Where on the internet do you get your information from?

I still have and use a 6P I was issued back in the late 90s.

So the military does not issue handheld lights anymore?
I know they get issued CSWL (Crew Served Weapon Lights).

I'm just asking because I do own a Streamlight Sidewinder and its MIL-SPEC rated.
I just wonder if those were ever used by the military at some point.

Ok, I'll bite.  What the fuck is a "crew served weapon light?"  FWIW, my unit issued me a piece of shit handheld Pelican flashlight.  I've never used it.

He's talking about the Surefire Hellfighter.

AFAIK, there hasn't been a "standard" military handheld flashlight since the old angle-headed flashlights - but a lot of units have purchased various different models for issue, including, but not limited to Pelicans, Streamlights, Surefires, etc.

Between personally purchased lights and unit issued ones, I don't think you're going to see/find a lot of standardization above individual units.

Same goes for things like head-lamps, helmet lights, etc.

Ahhh, I get it.  He threw me for a loop when he mentioned "crew served" and then referenced the Insight WMX200.  I was like

For several years the Marine Corp issued hardcase flashlights but since helmet lights have become common they are not issued anymore
