Correct, when we are talking slings for combative or CQB type use. You do not want a sling to delay transition to your handgun, it is for carrying the weapon when released and you need to transition to handgun or do something with your hands. Slings of this type are made by Blue Force Gear, Magpul, Viking Tactics, etc. If we are talking about competitive shooting sports, there are slings that can be used to carry in the traditional manner and also have shooting support by being able to cuff in and quickly loosen or remove the cuff for particular shooting stages made of nylon. These types of slings are not use for real precision work with the cuffs in real life combat or law enforcement type situations, just for competitions where they are mandated or come in handy in PRS type matches where other support is not allowed. They are commonly used on bolt guns. Slings of this type are made by TAB, Short Action Precision, Rifles Only/FTW, etc. They will also have a short bungee section in some of these slings which can allow a shooter to quickly take up slack and get a tight sling position, where a close combat type sling would not want elastic properties since if you get in a struggle for the weapon it can snap back and the rifle hit you in the face, decreases weapon stability when released and on the move, etc.
