Hey guys,
I´m a strong believer in a supportive shooting sling (when use is possible), our forefathers all shot with slings, but in times of benchresting and shooting from bipods some good things get a bit lost in my opinion.

But anyway, the shooting slings I remember will suck somewhat when it comes to just carry the rifle around.

As I, as a "sling rookie" understand, the one- or two-point slings are just for carrying the rifle, but are not shooting slings.
Is that correct?

Correct, when we are talking slings for combative or CQB type use. You do not want a sling to delay transition to your handgun, it is for carrying the weapon when released and you need to transition to handgun or do something with your hands. Slings of this type are made by Blue Force Gear, Magpul, Viking Tactics, etc. If we are talking about competitive shooting sports, there are slings that can be used to carry in the traditional manner and also have shooting support by being able to cuff in and quickly loosen or remove the cuff for particular shooting stages made of nylon. These types of slings are not use for real precision work with the cuffs in real life combat or law enforcement type situations, just for competitions where they are mandated or come in handy in PRS type matches where other support is not allowed. They are commonly used on bolt guns. Slings of this type are made by TAB, Short Action Precision, Rifles Only/FTW, etc. They will also have a short bungee section in some of these slings which can allow a shooter to quickly take up slack and get a tight sling position, where a close combat type sling would not want elastic properties since if you get in a struggle for the weapon it can snap back and the rifle hit you in the face, decreases weapon stability when released and on the move, etc.

MS1 Magpul is a good option.  I use one either one or two point and easily adjustable length for various shooting positions.  Lots of options for connecting points.

I've used magpul for precision shooting, it will sling up tight if you f with it and get it to work for you. Gotta get it adjusted right.

No.  A properly configured quick-adjust 2-point sling still functions as a stabilizing factor for shooting at distance.

two point, side-mounted, locking quick-adjust; VTAC or VCAS are popular choices

RiflesOnly carbine sling is a simple great sling, really locks the gun in for stable shooting. The RiflesOnly bungee sling formally known as the FTW sling is geared more for precision bolt guns but lots of people use them on carbines and DMR type guns with great success.

If you don't have huge arms, a Vickers Sling can be used as a proper loop sling by adjusting the tri-glides out.

If you have bigger arms, you can add a D ring and use one of several aftermarket quick detach cuffs.

With a little creativity, most slings can be adapted for traditional (high power) style sling supported shooting.

You can certainly use a good two point for transportation and some support even if it isn't quite as supportive as a dedicated cuff sling. The main thing to look for is enough length in the sling and it needs to be easily adjustable.

GI style cotton sling works for both.
Any 2 point sling should be able to be used as a "hasty sling".  The GI ones have a clip on the butt plate side that you take off and can make a proper loop sling.  I'm sure lots of YouTubes on how to do it, the Appleseed website talks a lot about sling use (and they typically use the cotton GI type).

WWII Training video, covers sling use

ETA: one day I'm going to get a Tuner Sling National Match sling for my M1

I'm a 60 y/o AR noob so I thank the OP for asking the question the thoughtful answers.

My "kit" is coming together, AR, scope, pack with a scabbard, almost ready for a scope mount cha-ching wise.

Left is 2-4 more mags, sling, strippers, bourbon and stripper clips, scope mount, pack accessories (molle flasks) and a good sling.

I had no idea how much cha-chingo all of this cost for a middle of the road jobber doo cost.

Thanks for the suggestions the data brah.

I have a couple cuff type slings on my heavy precision rifles, while they are great for support they suck for carrying( because the rifles are heavy).

I have a simple Proctor sling for a scoped carbine that is fine for carry because the rifle is only 8lbs, it adjust quickly, simple mounting, but not as good for shooting support.

If you have lighter rifles in mind you can probably find a perfect sling for all your needs.

Afdter re-reading Bravo Six's replyl about adding "quick detach cuffs" (couldn't find those as a separate item) search turned up Tactical Interventions Specialists slings.  I have no experience with them, but they look to be the ideal combo of a 2 point, quick adjust sling with a loop/cuff you can use without fussing around and re-arranging your sling.
