Having a bit of an issue with switching out the dust cover on my new upper.   Instead of a c-clip holding the hinge pin in, the barrel end of it is knurled so it can't skip through.  Short of dismantling the barrel, or cutting the pin, is there a good option? I did try levering it over the barrel nut with no luck.

Of all the stupid crap to get hung up on...

Cut the pin and replace with a new one - it's a pretty cheap part.

Or you could cut it and replace it with a deadon arms pinless dust cover. It has spring loaded pins in both ends that negate the need for the standard full length pin and clip. You can put it on and take them off as needed..

That's pretty much what I expected.  I have a Dremel and I'm not afraid to use it.  Went on Brownell's and ordered a new pin and a couple of extra c-clips.  I'd go with the "pinless" system, but I've already got an engraved cover I'm putting on.

Another option is the Strike Industries UDC (which is also a detent pin style dust cover, same as the DOA except made of Polymer).
