Picked up 10 MOE M2 PMAGs, they will not hold the bolt open in my RR Colt, or the Rock River.  They will hold the bolt open on my old Colt from the 90s though.

Is this a known issue?  Probably just dump them and move on.

Sounds like a bad bolt catch or weak ammo

Manually cycling the bolt, so not an ammo issue.  I am having a hard time believing there is anything wrong with the guns when all of the 60+ AL mags work fine.

My family only uses gen2 pmags. Never had that problem in any of our rifles.

Do you have a friend with a different rifle you can try them in?

Never had an issue in any of my various AR's.

I find that the bolt catch takes more pressure to release on PMAGs than GI magazines. I just use GI; they work and are half to a third the price if I buy surplus Colt/Okay magazines.

If your manually cycling them, have to tried actually shooting them?

Where are you getting Colt/Okay surplus for $4?

Sold them for what I paid, I'll just stick to the AL mags.

That's below their value. Hope you bought them all. USED Colt marked mags sell all day long at $15.

This. You could resell them for 100% profit plus shipping instantly if you bought more than you needed.

This is a known issue. Some of the PMAGs had followers that would not engage the bolt catch on some rifles, like the older Colts.  My 16 predates 86, and the Rock River is mid 90s.  There is an updated bolt catch to address the out of spec followers.  From what I have read, it's a fairly uncommon problem.

I've never had an issue with a M2 PMag.  IMO there's something else going on vs. the mag.

This was a common problem in the mid/late 2000's.  If you do some google searching you can find pictures of the differences in various bolt catches.  The Colt catch of that era had a slightly longer nose.  the other suppliers often had a slightly shorter nose.  It's usually only a problem on some rifles due to tolerance stacking with the bolt catch and magwell coupled with Pmags. Most other mags won't have the problem with the shorter nose catch, just Pmags.  Some guys bought Colt catches and others bought 9mm catches and ground the nose shorter to work reliably with the Pmags...or just stopped using Pmags.

I installed the Aero PDQ to a lower and have the same result with my M2 PMAG not holding the bolt. All my other mags (M3 Pmag, Lancer, and GI) work without issue.

I got rid of all my Gen1, Gen2, and M2 Pmags.  I use USGI, Troy battle mags, and parked SA80 steel mags with CMMG SS followers.  I plan on trying some M3 Pmags and Lancer soon.  I fully admit that the problem is with my lowers and not the Pmags I've owned in the past.  I've found it easier to get rid of the mags than track down/ fix the tolerance stacking issues.

My ar will not lock back after the last round with gen 2s tried different brands of ammo and nothing, gen 3s are fine and so are gi mags.

It has an Aero Precision upper, makes me wonder if that has something to do with it.

The fact it is an 18 inch rifle gas on a carbine buffer probably is the issue.

If it locks back with mags other than Gen2 PMag, logic would say the problem is with the mag not your rifle.  The magazine doesn't increase port pressure/ gas volume.  It does impart slight drag on the bolt carrier, though.  I don't see drag being much different between generations of PMags (if same ammo is used).  What's your gas port diameter?  IIRC ~.098" is generally what an 18" rifle gas should be.

All my 21 training mags are Gen2 Pmags. After many thousands of rds, none have failed to lock the bolt back either manually or when shooting.

The MOE Pmag black with no window is my favorite magazine ever. Quality GI a close second.

It's gotta be your guns. I only use gen2 pmags when I train, and I've never had an issue with one. They just flat out work and I would trust my life to them no problem.

I have issues with the M3 in a few guns, but the M2 has always been GTG.

Try Lancers, I like them better anyway.
