I have been getting both 20's and 30's, wondering how many of each to keep on hand.
Do you have a certain number for range and classes, and store a certain amount?

All of them! :-)

As many as you can afford. It's salad days now. Buy cheap and stack deep. Pistol, rifle, AR. Don't forget ammo too. There have been some decent specials on ammo as of late. Sub $300 for 1k 62gr 5.56

Some guys say minimum of 10 per rifle. A lot and I mean a lot of guys have hundreds per rifle.

Check this thread out.

Welcome by the way.

What part of Oregon?

I would take advantage of the cheap prices currently. Never know what the Dems are going to F up here next.

Thanks for the info....exactly what I'm doing. With a democratic governor with the last name of Brown, not much good can happen.

Living the life near the Medford area....

I have 155 30rder and 10 20rders right now. I need more ammo but funds are very limited for the next couple years. Wife went back to school for her RN.

Less than 200. I haven't counted in 10 years. I shoot 20s far more often than 30s now, so I've picked up another 40-50 p-mag or lancer 20s in the last few years. I own 6 ars.

Think how many you can buy when she's done.

I have a med sized pallet box full of 30 round mags, and then a couple hundred 20rnd ones. And most of them I keep loaded

I just buy them cheap and stack them deep, most of mine are aluminum with a few pmags and lancers tossed in, I'm in the camp of not needing plastic ones to replace my metal ones.

The few metal ones that I have busted or worn out I fill with epoxy and use it as a receiver block in my vice.

I have tested them all in my RR and semis and haven't had an issue.

Yes, I am a Mag whore lol

I always keep my eyes open for preban mags to send to those stuck in states that aren't so free and while I could make money off them I sell them for cost

In my safe in my room I keep 8 loaded mags ready to go, but the rest are in a locked safe room and in old lockers that are locked up

So what's even the argument for 20 rounders?  From what I've seen, they are more expensive.  Is there a 20 round limit state?

20's are shorter and when shooting prone are a little easier depending on how you like to prone out.   Also can be easier when shooting from bags or a rest.

I like to use 20's for when I'm out hunting yotes as well.   Rifle is a bit more compact and a bit easier to use off of a hasty rest or laying prone.  I even have some 10's for my 300BLK for hunting.

Some guys prefer them for shooting prone or off a bench.

I like 20 round mags for Home Defense, as well.

Minimum of 7 x 30 Rd & 4 x 20 Rd mags per Rifle, provided you have plenty of rounds on stripper clips, in bandoleers, with spoons (guides.)

Bandoleers are also good for carrying loaded mags.

i use 20's for my home defense and to test new / different ammo since they normally come in 20 rd boxes.

OP fwiw I have 13 brand new okay industries USGI dry film lubed and yes they have the old school green follower, for the zombie apocalypse  which I have tested to ensure they run.  I have dozens of USGI labelle and D&H mags to include a few Gen 2 Pmags. I also plan on adding more USGI okay mags and Pmags Gen 3 type.  I believe you never can have enough magazines and ammo.  I have a dozen mags I use strictly for training/classes and replace them as needed.

I only keep 10 per AR around loaded.  All my extra mags are stored.
A few mags I've been using since 09 & they still function just fine.

110+. Take ten or so to the range, leave 100 at home. Clean the 10 when done, reload, and move to the back. Next time grab the front ten. All mags should be loaded.

20 20rd mags and 30 30rd mags per rifle...

at least.

depends entirely on the use of the gun. I have a 1911 that i only use for plinking at the range. I own 4 mags for it total, 2 eight rounders, and 2 tens. It's all I need. I'm not going to comps or running around in SHTF with it, and the mags aren't likely to 'dry up' or become rare...so no real 'need' to have a ton of them. On the flip side, my SHTF rifle takes STANAG mags, so I do have a ton of them. Not even sure how many total to be honest. Prolly between 70 and 100, of various sizes and types. My odds of 'needing' more than that in SHTF are near zero. No matter how much of a badass you are, you're not going to be surviving hundreds of gun fights. Eventually someone else will either be lucky or good.
