With the recent gun legislation in CA that bans magazines over 10 rounds I thought I would look at what I had purchased over the years. Looks like my only options are to permanently convert my magazines with a capacity over 10 rounds to 10 rounds or disassembly the magazines. I found I have 15 new 20 round Colt magazines with aluminum followers I purchased back around 1990. These are sealed in long-term storage packaging.

I have six magazines of this vintage I have been using over the last 25 years. Two are marked CAL .223 and four are marked CAL 5.56 MM. I know I only purchased 17 magazines in the sealed packages so I must have opened two 25 years ago since there are only 15 left. I don’t remember how I acquired the other 4. I am guessing the magazines in the sealed packages are marked CAL .223.

Does anyone have an idea what the 20 round magazines are worth in the sealed long-term storage packaging? According to the new law I have one year to sell them or permanently modify them to accept only 10 rounds. I would rather sell them than damage them with a permanent alteration.

I'd say about $25.00 each, you might get slightly more selling them on the EE to guys in MA.

I believe pre-ban mags are still legal in MA under the state AWB they have.

Thanks everyone. Your comments have been very helpful.

BTW, It has been over 20 years since I have opened the sealed packaging on any of these magazines and I just opened one now to confirm what is inside. These are indeed marked CAL. .223 so these are commercial Colt 20 round magazines.

Yes, from time to time.  I love the Colt 20's and buy them whenever I find a deal on them myself.

The mags you showed are not factory new. Guys re-pack magazines in that anti-corrosive paper all the time to boost profits. The new mags did not come in that paper. They also could be military re-packs but its not likely. The military used those type mags early in the history of the M16 so they could be mil-issue.

I have about ten of these magazines and they are energizer bunnies. They keep going and going and going.

I purchased them around 1981 for $4.00 each. I could have and should have bought a 100 of them. They are very reliable and durable AR-15 magazines.

I have three of these I can't wait to try em. My dad picked em off the ground when he was in navy rotc in the 70s because they were throwing them away after use. Gotta love how the government waste money.

Meh, I would post on here that you sold them, then I would just keep them.  Fuck Cali.

Best mags ever made IMHO.  I bought 20 or so to go along with some my dad had from his days in the military.  They just plain work in every AR I have and never give any problems.
