Are these things just a gimmick? A friend offered me a bunch at $10 each.

I was a Cammenga Distributor for quite a few years, 87GN did a torture test on one I sent him.

It faired about as well as most steel mags.

$10.00 is a good price, when they first came out my cost was closer to $20 than $10.

I have several that have been 100% reliable, the cost used to be the only real negative about them.

I can pick up Pmags and D&H mags cheaper.

Love them. they have been great mags for me. Just picked up some at Cabelas for $9.99 each. I like pmags better, but for steel, I love my Cammengas

Friend has a couple.  Said they run really well but must be loaded one certain way which he said would be a pain in the butt in a high stress situation.

Second hand info but thought it might be helpful.

Gimmicky! Annoying to load and excessively heavy. That being said I think I have only had one malfunction with one and that was when a frangible bullet collapsed into a cartridge neck.

I wouldn't pay more than $6 for one with so many options on this current market.

You can either slide them open or load them like a conventional magazine.

I think he was talking about when you slide them open.  You can't just drop the rounds in there like they show in the videos when they first came out.

It's a cool gimmick, the gimmick just never caught on though.

They're kinda cool and work well, but are heavy and not as easy to use as they make out in the video.  Also, the spring loaded front will chop off body parts if you're not careful.  Using stripper clips will load a mag faster, and you don't have to worry about losing fingers.

Have one in my pile.  Heavy (well built) and reliable.  Until the other posts here I never realized there was another way of loading them, ha!

So I just got these from cabelas. So can I just load them like regular mags instead of slideing the front down?

Yes, you can load them eithrr way.

If you live in a humid environment, watch for rust.  Mine rusted very easily.

Fairly ingenious solution to a non-existent problem.
