Im looking to try and find a factory/commercially available bonded round (like the ones recommended on the self defense page) that is loaded to 5.56 pressures.

It would be for use in an 8.5 inch barrel. Im looking to try and get a round that will expand out to at least 100 yds and to also be travelling at or above 2000 fps at 100 yds. If I can find a few options that would fit that bill... I would be good with 5.56 in a sub 10 inch barrel...I would prefer that over 6.8 because of the cost difference for training ammo. if not I will probably go to 6.8spc

Does anyone know of any options that would meet those requirements.

I know that BH has 5.56 options like the barnes TSX, but with a minimum required expansion velocity it would probably fall under that close to or before 100 yds...

Fusion MSR is going to be a very good choice I would think. MSR is a .223 load but it's specced to 2750FPS out of a 16" barrel, which is damn close to 5.56 pressures. While that may not be what you want to hear, its a very good round at a relatively fast speed. You should chrono AND group at least a box before going all in though.

I am averaging over 3000fps with 55gr Gold Dot. This is pretty warm for .223
RA556B is 5.56 pressure.
XM556FBIT3 is 5.56 pressure.

I haven't been able to find it available to civilians. Are there any other sources that sell to non law enforcement?

SGAmmo.com has had it in the past, but currently only has the .223 Gold Dot in stock. Target Sports USA may have some as well.

You can check local LEO Distributors that may sell to civilians

Anyone know how the XM556FBIT3 shoots in SBRs?
I kinda torn between this and Barnes VOR-TX 62gr.
Both are about $1 a round at the moment....

Federal 62 grain Bonded Softpoint FBI Equivalent Load XM556SBCT3, per the manufacturer this is the same as XM556FBIT3, they just give it a different SKU # for non-FBI contract.  At Bone Frog Gun Club for $1/round ($100/100 rounds - that is the best price I have seen on this round on top of how hard it is to find)

This.  I don't care if it's 5.56, I care that it's designed to go fast for bullet weight from a short barrel, and 62gr MSR does that, is accurate, functions great in ARs, and expands to stupid low velocities.  It's a real sweet spot design.

Not bonded and not 5.56 but 55gr Hornady SP will do what you seek for much cheaper than other options.

That's really not close to 5.56 pressure for a 16" barrel - a 62gr should be going 2990-3000fps @ 5.56 pressure.
http://rifleshooter.com/2015/12/223-remington-5-56mm-nato-barrel-length-and-velocity-26-inches-to-6-inches/

At 5.56 pressure, a 62gr is going 2300fps from an 8" barrel per the above testing.

Hence my continued desire for a 5.56 Fusion.
