Kinda bummed out that my state is about to pass a law requiring a internet sales tax to be enforced, which will add $20-40 to a case of ammo. I have a case of 55 gr Gold Dot, but no 64 or 75.
The 64 is on sale with free shipping, and not sure when or if the 75 gr will be back on sale, so my question is, is there anything the 75 will do that the 64 will not?
This is mainly hunting up to deer size game, general use, and having some for a stash... as I do not use a AR for home defense.
Am I good to go on the 64, or maybe ask PSA if they plan to run the 75 on sale in the next month or so?

IMHO, if you're only hunting within 150 yards, the very minor differences in ballistics and terminal performance between the two loadings will be in the noise.  Beyond 150 yards, there starts to be a slight advantage to the heavier loading.  In short and for your likely situation just buy a bunch of the 64gr on sale now!

The 75gr performs better through barriers, more retained weight especially through auto glass. That could translate to better performance through bone or better penetration on larger game.

I would go 64g,  much better velocity.

Testing through a 24" barrel seems pointless.

Interesting. I would think the 75 would be the better choice from this report and the replies,, guess I need to ask if a sale is coming up soon.

This may be my only option, and for the price, is hard to beat.

The 75 will buck the wind a little bit better at longer ranges (300+ yds), but other than that the results on game will be similar. I would say stock up on 64gr now, they will suit your needs just fine.

FWIW, the GD 75gr was designed for shorter barrels, so there is actually very little (VERY little) difference between the 24" and 20" barrels. Run a search in ammo, we've had a couple highly informative threads on this ammo. It is pretty unique in performance. I've had excellent performance from the 75gr on wild hogs out to 400 yards.

Im a 64 grain fan myself. Stabilizes very well in 1 in 9 twists and probably could be used in a 1 in 12 in a pinch.

Tests I have seen show good penetration past 12" in Gel with good weight retention.

I bought 500 rounds from PSA when it was on sale for 9.99 a box, but no free shipping. 75 grain was the same price but I feel the 64 grain will do anything I need it for.

Thanks for the test BlueFalcon. Good info on how well that round performs out of a short barrel.

I have picked up a good amount of the 64 gr GD from PSA on sale at $9.99 box delivered. The accuracy is superior to most everything else I have for SD.
I may buy a few rounds of 75 gr one day for those windy days since it will retain a little better accuracy. Everything I have read points
to this being one of the very best SD rounds available for penetration/expansion and at $9.99 box shipped I could not resist.
Buy with absolute confidence.
