Is this worth buying? I'm always looking for cheap brass range ammo for my AR-10 but I've never shot any of the POF. The headstamp is 90 on the lot I found.

My experience with that stuff was bad.  IDK the headstamp date.  Prolly the only ammo I have ever thrown away, it was that bad .  Jammed up a FAL tight, so I tried it in a bolt gun.  Damn near needed a mallet to open the bolt.  Dug a shallow grave right there and buried it.   It was super cheap, like 200 rds for 45.00.   I damn near bought 4K rds too.   Smartest thing I've done in a while was buy 200 to test.

And all mine came in 10 rd. Sealed plastic sleeves, seems like it was a 88 or 90 headstamp.   Once I looked closer, I could see about 1 in 10 had bullets visibility canted in the case, tar like sealant exposed on lots of rounds, lots of dented cases.  This was about 10 years ago though.

I have never heard anything good about POF 7.62.  Over the years I have passed on some great deals as the negatives outweighed the positives for me.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I expected.

Back in the early 90's I purchased some and it was hard to believe how bad it was.

This is my recollection as well. The early 80's stuff was perfectly safe and serviceable.

Ugh...

I hate to pass up brass cased 7.62 for <30 cents a round, but it sounds like it's not even worth that.

The POF .30-06 I've had decent luck with, but lot size used is small.

You don't want it . A friend of mine picked up a lot of it cheap . I think he got to experience every ammo related malfunction possible

Will they ship? At .30¢ a round, I'd buy a bunch

I believe I remember reading the repackaged stuff in the sealed 10-20 round packages or whatever is the ones that had some major issues especially certain dates I think.  But it seems like I remember reading that the older milsurp stuff that comes in the regular packaging or bandoleer is ok stuff.  I know I have a couple hundred rounds of it somewhere that came in the bandoleers but never got around to trying any of it out since I usually just shoot South African stuff which is great (sure wish those would come back cheap again).

If you do a search on google and search some of the different forums topics on this a few years back you will probably find a good bit of info.  I imagine it would be mostly 308/battlerifle forums etc but probably a few here on ar15.com as well.

So at less then 30 cents a round I would for sure give it a try if it was packaged in bandoleers and not in the 10 round plastic packs that others talk about having bad experiences with.  At least worth buying a couple hundred rounds to try out before buying it all up.

The 10 round plastic bags was 90's ammo from India and junk.
POF is Pakistani and not a lot better but it doesn't Kaboom guns.
So much bad information on here.

As a side note: ALL OFV(India) 7.62 is boxer primed. The stuff from the 70's is really good and has a thick web.

91F nailed it.  OFV is the junk Indian from the 90s.

POF is dirty and inaccurate, but I shot a few cases of it through M14s several years ago, and never had a problem.
