I was looking into the wolf gold .223,xm193 and m855. Any thoughts appreciated. Just a note will be firing out of a 16 inch 1/7 twist barrel.

Wolf Gold or Geco .223. Whichever your rifle shoots better.

Wolf Gold, the Geco is good too but the Wolf is cheaper.

The AE223 FMJ is good. The sale at PSA for $349 shipped isn't a bad deal. link

How much per round does wolf gold go for?

SG Ammo has it for .31/round + shipping if you buy a case. They also have PMC Bronze for the same price, I've had good luck with this stuff also.

Bought a couple cases of PMC bronze from bulk ammo for $315 shipped each, runs nice and clean in all my AR's.

This is a good list.

Wolf Gold and PPU M193 are bargains.

I bought half a case of PMC Bronze a couple of years ago and it seemed like a weak load.

PMC Bronze is a weak load. In fact, I use it for reliability testing (if it functions w/PMC Bronze, it will function w/about anything).

My stash of "cheap" 55gr consists of Prvi m193 and Wolf Gold. I like the looks of Geco as well.

I'm looking for the same thing but would prefer HP instead of FMJ. Main reason is for hunting as well. All shots sub 100yds so I don't need match grade stuff. I've found bulk HP steel casing but I prefer brass. Any suggestions?

Try Hornady 55gr SP.

As far as PMC bronze yes it's weak but still a quality round. I've shot thousands of rounds in rifle and pistol and had zero issues. Looks nice too.

OP: Wolf Gold

What are you looking to spend per round?  SG has Prvi Partizan match HP for $.48-.50/rd.  Remington 50gr HP is $.37/rd at SG but is currently OOS.

I would prefer a 55-62 gr bullet under .40/rd.

Its a little more than WOLF Gold, but if you wander across some 5.56mm M193 56 Grain FMJ Military Ammo Made by MEN in Germany - MEN556A buy it! Great stuff and never seen better looking ammo. I think SGAmmo sold out of it in about a week or so and should be getting another shipment in December.

Could you share where you got this?

Just want to share what the GECO 55gr 5.56 is capable of in my SR15 Mod1 with its slightly thicker LW CHF CL 16" barrel(0.65" diameter).
I've also tried the GECO 55gr 223, which many had reported to be more accurate than the 5.56 version...
But with my Mod1, 223 is about 2MOA while the 5.56 is 1.25-1.5MOA.

Definitely going to pick up more cases of the GECO 55gr 5.56

Shot these groups using just my range bag on a table, my primary arm is not fully supported, due to poor indoor range condition.

I have shot a lot of PMC Bronze.  Never a bad round and accurate for budget ball ammo.  Packaging sucks though with flimsy box and no divider if I had to be picky.

I am reading here that some think PMC Bronze is a weak load.  That hasn't been my experience but has anyone here run it through a chronograph?

No chrono, but the PMC Bronze and PPU 69/75gr are the only two loads I've tried that occasionally won't lock the bolt back in my SR15.
When shooting these two loads, I can feel the bolt carrier running in the rifle, which other ammo I've tried will not do.
AE223 50gr 'VT', HotShot 55gr 223, Wolf 55gr 223, and even Tula 223 will lock the bolt back on the last shot.

I think I shot a box with no problems, but it was just to test a new build.
This is from a  post by bfoosh06, from last year using 16 and 20 inch barrels.. PMC 55gr Bronze..................Av. 2626 , ES 82...............Av. 2754 , ES 97........................ Just awful accuracy
