In your experience, what have you guys/gals found to be the weakest factory ammo in .308? The reason I ask is because I am currently in the process of building  a .308 variant with an adjustable gas block and want to have it adjusted to reliably cycle with a weak load. I guessing something along the lines of a Wolf Gold...thanks

I believe .308 is typically loader to higher pressures than 7.62x51, so you might want to concentrate on finding a weak 7.62x51 round.

Have heard British Radway Green 7.62x51 tends to be on the weak side.

Spanish surplus was one of the weaker rounds I've used over the years

Magtech (CBC) is the weakest I have seen

7.62x51 CETME. I bought some from Graf's last year.

The low recoil ammo above . S & B loads a subsonic 200 grain load . I picked up a box but have not shot any yet . Of commercial ammo the UMC loads are also pretty weak .

Radway green (7.62x51) was the one ammo that required more gas to cycle my FN-FALs compared to all the others (when we tested several years back). It cycled fine once the regulator was opened a bit, so is probably sort of what you are looking for. It seemed weak, or underpowered- but the chrono'd velocity was right up there with the other 7.62x51 mil. ammos that we had available (then).

We didn't test them all, so am sure others probably compare- this was 14-15 years back. Radway 7.62 was pretty good ammo, it just stood out as requiring the regulator to be opened more than the others we tested. Many others noted the same results.

maybe the german 7.62 nato plastic training ammo? I would imagine that to be the weakest.

Here is some good information I had from M14Forum.  Most all lots are different and this is a few years old but a decent starting place to keep your purchases to a minimum for testing:

Good luck and be sure to let us know what you end up finding out from your testing.

I wouldn't gas a rifle based on how it shoots with subsonic stuff unless that's all you intend to use.  That stuff is brutally weak compared to standard 308.  I'd stick with gassing it based on "weak" standard loads, otherwise regular supersonic 308 is going to slam the hell out of it.

Factory Remington 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips would not cycle in my AR10.

But has been said, surplus is probably weaker than that...

Wolf is pretty weak, as well as its clone Tula. Both chrono low compared to other new current production ammo.

I have a bunch of Port and Aussie surplus and the Port is about 200FPS slower than the Aussie.
