Went to the range yesterday to try out some bulk ammo out of my 18" SPR (Black Hole Weaponry polygonal barrel 5.56 chamber).  I shot both Wolf Gold 55gr .223 and 55gr M193 5.56.  At 100m the wolf was making 10rd groups within the size of a pingpong ball but the M193 was grouping the size of a softball.  Has anyone else at a similar experience?  Am I sacrificing anything if I stock up on the Wolf vs. M193 as my go-to bulk round for the gun?  So far the guns favorite ammo has been Hornady 75gr HP match which makes 1" 10rd groups.

Yep. M193 is 2-4MOA and Wolf gold is less than 2 MOA. in my experience. It is good stuff. I need to order more. I am holding out for <$300/1000.

You are losing crimped and sealed cases. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Edit: With an 18" bbl, you'll be fine, but the Hornady 75gr match is much slower than other match rounds that I've shot. YMMV.  Another option is the PPU 75gr match. It isn't as accurate, but is good stuff for stocking up for HD/SD needs.

Good to hear I am not the only one who has experienced this result haha.  AIM has a special on Wolf Gold this weekend, 1,000rds $339 delivered.  I just ordered 2,000 rounds and put 2,000 rounds of my m193 on Armslist haha.

It's available for cheaper than $339 delivered from The Armory. Shipping was $11 to Ohio.

Similar experience here. Federal XM193 vs Wolf Gold and I was grouping tighter and more consistent with the Wolf Gold. The one question mark is how do it's terminal ballistics stack up?

I agree, I wish brassfetcher from youtube would run a test on it.  I'm curious to see how it does.

Probably not well.  The reason Fed. XM193 fragments the way it does is the thin jacket; not all 55gr bullets have it. The Hornady 55gr FMJ's are superior accuracy-wise but have a thicker jacket and don't fragment as well as M193.

You're probably correct. Below is a photo I took after pulling the cartridge apart. Bullet on the left is Wolf Gold, the one on the right is Federal XM193

I've found Wolf to be a 2MOA shooter out of my SPR with 10 round groups.

But I've had the same luck with PMC Bronze which is more consistent ES but quite a bit slower, 2800FPS versus 3050 FPS.  I do see more single fliers with PMC Bronze than I do with Wolf which I can't account for in terms of me, FPS or the phase of the moon.

Is the jacket on the Wolf thicker or does it just appear thicker because its rolled at the end?  The boat tail on the Wolf looks alot more "aero friendly" than the ass end of the M193.  Thanks for sharing the picture man.  Eventually someone with shoot some into some gel and share the results.

Good question. I'll need to cut into the Wolf Gold bullet to see if it's really thicker

I just grinded down the end of the Wolf Gold bullet flat, and the jacketing is most definitely thicker than Federal XM193

Wow! Talk about a timely thread. I poke my head in here to get some info on Wolf gold.
First thread home run.  Thanks  for all the info - everybody!

I think this is going to be my new put up ammo. I've got some PMC that i've almost shot up and some IMI put up but this wolf looks like some good stuff.

I have had Wolf Gold tumble on exit in rabbits. I would be very interested to see a gel test.

A few days ago, I took my scoped HBar to the range.
Firing ten rd. groups from the bench, Wolf Gold shot somewhat better groups than the IMI M-193.
1.4" vs 1.8"
I wouldn't want to guess about terminal effects, but IME, the Wolf Gold is definitely consistent enough.

ETA: The XM855 i brought along was absolutely abysmal, compared to the above.
3.9" was the best group from the M-855.
Hell, the 55gr. Tula came in at 2.55"

It's also $327 shipped at Ammunition Store

It was recently below $300/1000 there.  On the 4th I think it was $289 or something.

Any reloaders buying this stuff? If so, how is the brass for reloading?

Wolf Gold?  No.  My range inspects all ammo going in, or I couldn't use it.  It's GTG.

Nope, neither the bullet nor casing is magnetic. Check out the video posted a little earlier in this thread.
