I was giving some Remington buckshot shells. They don't have a UPC so they must be old. Here is a pic of the lot number.

Any one know how old they are? IF this isn't the right place please move it.

Unless you're interested from a reloading perspective, despite the new forum heading (ammunition &), this is the wrong place. This forum is to discuss reloading.

This thing needs to go back to what it was. There will be hundreds more of these threads in here, since it does say ammunition, which will rightly lead people to think they should ask questions about...ammunition here.

Bad idea to change it, and an easily foreseen problem.

More pics would help, but contacting Remington will ultimately give the best answers.

If the casings (or hulls) are brass, or even paper- they could have some age to them.
If the casings are plastic, I'd consider them as not very old.
The box appears to have seen some rough handling, but does not appear to be old style- I'm still just guessing.

We need pics

UPC's were firs used in 1974, adoption took a while to hit all items, if that box was part of a larger pack, like 25 with 5 boxes of 5 each, there may not be a UPC on it. At any rate, by ammo standards it is basically modern ammo, provided it isn't all brass or paper. Federal still makes a paper shell but it isn't common

picture of the front of the box would be better, as internally used lot numbers for QC are probably not well open sourced.

Here are some more photos.

I am sure they aren't as old as many think they are.

Eh 80's 90's.  '
If there is no green corrosion on the brass, then they have probably been stored OK, handled rough and a lot looking at the box, but I'd shoot them with no worries.
YMMV.

That's what I'm thinking. 80's, maybe. Practically new as ammo goes.

Try the International Ammunition Association website forum. There are guys there that know the lot number codes for most major ammunition manufacturers. From general appearances and the price, I'd guess 1980's vintage, give or take.

Looks like it's from the 80s. I'm pretty sure it's been a while since Remington stamped the hull with "Remington Peters".

Why are you so interested in the year they were made?

They look fine, shoot them or properly store them away for another 30 years and they will be fine. I still have 12 gauge ammo for the 1970's and older. Last week I shot some 30.06 from WWII.
