These happen to be m193, so for $179 ($194 after tax) they're $0.46/rnd. Which, IMHO, is way overpriced for either 193 or 855.

Saw a couple cases done 420 m855. Don't know how much they were. Are those overpriced?

The 420 round cans are $164 plus tax here in Texas....still a little steep, but not too bad.

Wal Marts around here are now carrying aluminum cased Federal 9mm for $9.97.  I don't know how well it will function
compared to brass, but it might be worth a try at that price.

You were correct.
They are marked $14.97, but scanned $9.97.

I cleaned them out - 25 boxes.

Thanks for the heads up.

That is a good price, though.

Came out here specifically to see if anyone was talking about his.  We got a local WalMart sale paper in showing Federal 9mm for $9.97/50 rounds.  Stopped by there tonight and was surprised to see 16 boxes in the case.  You don't see the "ALUMINUM" logo until they unstack the boxes and pull them out of the case.  I bought 3, didn't notice the aluminum until I was at the cash register.  Went ahead and bought them but thinking not quite as great a deal.

I have always wondered for a long time why aluminum has not been used for cartridge cases ???  Any issue with aluminum ?  Seems like it would make the perfect .223 round for AR-15's.

Tearing off cartridge case bases.  You'll often see a warning not to use aluminum cases in blowback carbines, particularly in .40" S&W.  My KelTec SUB 2000 specifically warns against it.

I posted this in another thread but thought I would mention it here:
I was at my local wal-mart and they had 50 round boxes of ZQ 9mm 123gr brass cased for 12.97 ea.
First time I had seen it.
They had never stocked ZQ in 50rd boxes of 9mm before.
Anybody else seen this or used it before?
I picked up a couple of boxes to try.

I've run a few thousand rounds of Blazer aluminum through a couple of my pistols and have zero issues with it. I like to use it at ranges where picking up your empty brass for reloading is not possible of is impractical.

I stopped in the Harvard, IL Walmart for a quick gander at the ammo shelf.  I figured if they had the ZQI 5.56 ammo at a lower price, I'd pick up some.  Yes, they did have it, with a nice, shiny Walmart rollback sign advertising the $9.97 price.  At roughly 33cpr before tax, I figured it was a decent deal, so I got five boxes.  I also got four 50-round boxes of the ZQI 123gr 9mm at $12.97 apiece.

There was a ton of ammo on the shelves, except for .22LR.  Plenty of mostly overpriced .223 and 5.56, assorted handgun calibers, the usual stash of shotgun shells.  There was a spot for the Federal Aluminum 9mm, but none were there.  Also noticeably absent were Federal Champion and WWB 9mm.

I just popped off 5 boxes worth of the 5.56 today.  It went bang, but it wasn't nearly as accurate as Federal XM855.  I was shooting at 25 yards, and there was a noticeable up-and-down spread of at least a few inches, only some of which could be attributed to the shooter.

On my way home, I stopped in the Johnsburg, IL Walmart.  The ammo shelf was packed with everything except .22LR.  They had WWB and Federal 9mm, Federal .223 value packs ($40) and a boatload of the ZQI ammo.  There was no sign about a 20% off sale, though.  If they drop 20% off the current $10/30 (for 5.56) to $8, that would make it about 29cpr after sales tax.

I stopped by my local Walmart.
They had 1 box of ZQI 30 rounds for 9.97. I bought it.
They had probably 30 boxes of American Eagle .223 for 7.94 and PPU for 7.94 also. I got a box of AE.
They also had a couple boxes of Tula for 5.47.

Pretty good prices especially the ZQI. Is this ammo steel core?

Walmarts here are stocked with all kinds of Federal ammo. Prices below are for 100 round packs:

55 gr. .223- $34.97
115 gr. 9MM- $25.97
180 gr. .40 S&W- $26.97
230 gr. .45 ACP- $28.97

As long as they have .40 and .45 for these prices I will keep buying it. Plenty of the aluminum stiff around too.

Unless they are lying about the fact that it's SS109, then yes, it is steel-core. It did stick to a kitchen magnet.  I didn't cut one open, though.

Those 30 round boxes of ZQI 5.56 are a good deal. Nowhere on the box does it say 62gr, (STANAG 4172 only refers to 5.56x45) but the barcode label at wally did. Headstamp is MKE 14. They ARE indeed magnetic so it's safe to say they are non-green tip SS109.

Meaning you randomly walked by the counter and it was there?  Or was this a planned attempt to get some using the various apps to let you know when ammo is in stock?

I never walk by the ammo counter randomly - I'm drawn there like a moth to flame.

No, I don't need any ammo right now, just went to go see what was in stock.  This is the 3rd time in recent weeks to find .22" LR on the shelf.  The long drought may be over.

At least two Walmarts here in IL have signs posted about the ammo sale on Saturday October 4.  Among other things, they will have "CCI .22LR" in 100-round boxes, limit 3.  I assume that means Minimags.  The guy in sporting goods at the Woodstock store said they will have a pallet of .22, but he doesn't know how big of a pallet.

Sounds like the same guy here in ar, had not been in the Wm for a month or so, stopped by the ammo counter and they had a half full cabinet, most in a year, picked up box of the 50 223s mentioned above and saw no 22s.  Made comment and old guy said that they have a shipment coming sat morning and may be big.   Guess they are trying to load up shelves and see if they is changes the status?

This is bullshit. $7.87 for 100 rounds of plain old. CCI 40gr standard velocity .22 LR. My local WM limits you to 3 boxes.
It only encourages then to keep the price ridiculously hight and bump it higher.
I saw .22 LR on the shelves in my local WM yesterday for the first time in 2 yrs, I refuse to pay that price and you all should too.

That and the fact that availability has been severely lacking. If you see it, you better buy it, because it will be sold out quickly and then it might be a month or two before it is available again.

I agree with Willz,, too high of a price for me on .22. I saw a cart full of it behind the counter and didn't even think about buying it for that price. I did pick up 16 boxes of the 7.62x51 and 6 boxes of the 5.56 for $7.95 each, that is the deal everyone should have been hopping on.

LOL

not a high price for CCI STD, especially in this market. $3-$4 per 50 was an ok price for 22 LRN before Newtown and is ok now. Win  Wildcat LRN, Rem bucket of bullets, etc were cheaper, but those are cheaper brand ammo.

I buy all the CCI i can find for 8 CPR. Maybe not for Remington or Win.

I got dragged by the wife to a Walmart yesterday.  While there I took a look at the ammo case.

There was plenty of ammo other than .22lr.  There was lots of .223 / 5.56 as well as a number of 9mm varieties and .45.

All limits gone except for .22lr.  I spoke to the clerk who said that they got in CCI .22 last week and it lasted for about 4 days.

Sounds like the ammo shortage is nearing the end.  Now if only prices would come down.

8 cents a round for standard velocity with a limit of 300 rounds per customer probably had something to do with that.

The bulk packs still sell out very quickly.  The clerk I spoke to said it is very rare that he still has any bulk packs left an hour after he puts them out.

Helpful thread for those looking for ammo close by and in stock!

I'll stick to ordering online to save myself some cash but this may come in handy in a pinch.
