So we're hearing the gun was a 416, and on the radio they were saying the bullet entered his eye and "exploded" does anyone think this bullet they were talking about was a mk262 I've seen ballistic comparisions of the 77gr smk and I guess through the eye might "explode" or look like it. I'm just curious, if I'm not goin to run out and buy the gun used atleast I could use the same ammo.

I believe those were non-firearm knowledgeable personnel who were commenting on "exploding" projectiles.

Is'nt the Brown Tip Opt just a 70-gr triple shock X boat by Barnes? And not an explosive tip round?
Excuse my ignorance.

"just a Barnes TSX"...Like saying a Mercedes is just a car.

After entering 1.5" of his head it went to .50 caliber, that's A LOT of energy.

There is no "explosive tip" 5.56 round in military use.  And yes, the Brown Tip is a 70gr TSX.

Keep in mind it was an anti terrorism operation.

Still not "explosive" as for clarification.  Expanding, yes.

Special forces means special weapons.   More than likely a 4.6x30mm for the H&K mp7 pdw or the ucp pistol.  They make those in API and incendiary  A .416 is a .50 bmg necked down and has 2000 meter range.  Although that would make for a good slow motion video!  wolf

I think when the other post and OP were speaking 416 they meant the HK rifle model number 416, not the caliber 416. See link below.

Hey P, I disagree with you totally!  I think that a 70 gr. TSX would rank as "explosive" when used on an idiots head!  LMAO!  9080

What kind of velocity are you looking at with the 70grn barnes?  I imagine that you're reloading/hand loading those?

I use BL-C(2) powder at 25.5grs and get around 2800 fps. I could go hotter and get better velocity, however that cuts into my brass life.
I hate to load hot even on self defense rounds, because a 70 grain bullet traveling at anything over 2600 fps is going to drop the reciever on the other end easily. IMHO
I do not own a chronograph, I get my results from the reloading manual just to let you know.
