Right now I'm running an Aimpoint Pro with MBUS on an 8.5 barrel, but it feels just a little too large/clunky.  I've been tempted to swap it out with an EOTech XPS2-2 that's on another AR.  What other ideas would you guys suggest that would be $500 or less?

Try one of the Primary arms micros. I have a PA advanced micro in the tall mount on my 5" .22 upper. I will using the same on my 9 mm when it's done. Optic and mount was $200.

Aimpont H1 or T1. Or for less money the Primary arms micro as suggested above. I have both H1's and some PA micros and both are great on an SBR.

PA Micro or other Aimpoint T1/T2 mount compatible red dots.  Below is a Vortex SPARC I on a Bobro co-witness T1/T2 mount:

I'd go with an Aimpoint T-1/T-2 or similarly sized optic to keep the weight down as much as possible; The T-1/T-2s are a dandy of an optic. If you don;t want to spend that much coin, then go with a Vortex Sparc AR.

Any suggestions on flip up sights?
Have a set of DD fixed on my pistol now, but I always disliked seeing the sights in my optic window.
Have an H1 in a a.r.m.s. absolute co-witness mount.

Matech rear with a KAC front...but that's just a holdover from my issue/clone weapons.

Nice but not the cheapest options.

Even the micro seemed too big when I shrunk mine down with the CQB stock and short handguard, so I went this route. Thinking about switching out the fixed sights with some MBUS Pros now.

Need some help deciding on buis.
I have the following sitting in the parts bin or on guns that don't really need them.

1. Magpul mbus pros
2. Troy micros in FDE
3. Set of buis that came off an MPX

Preferences on the above?

Will go on a 9mm AR pistol with form 1 pending.

9mm upper
DDLES 9mm lower
BA 8.3" barrel
9" Troy Alpha handguard
2.5" steel flash can off ebay
KAK tube with Sigtac PSB

Bought that barrel

Little over the budget, but I went with the Aimpoint micro in a Larue mount:

I like the Vortex Razor MRDS, but it is a pain in the ass to turn on and off.  If I was going with a MRDS, I would go with an adjustable Trijicon RMR.  Another nice priced option is the Vortex SPARC AR.

I had a Docter on mine but swapped it to a PA Micro; the Docter went back on it's 45 degree mount on another rifle.

Holosun 503C. I like the circle and dot reticle for my 9mm.

Aimpoint Micro. Keep an eye out for used R1s on the EE. They are the H1 in a silver finish that was discontinued a few years ago. They can be had for $350-400.

I've grabbed a couple for various pistol and rimfire builds.

Rail is a DD Lite 4.0 which is unfortunately out of production. My guess is barrel is a 4.5".

As mentioned, it is a 4" DD Lite rail. The upper is a Spikes Tactical 9mm upper and the barrel is a 5" Lothar Walther with a Gemtech three lug mount that Spikes used to sell.

I'm running a Vortex Sparc 2 and love it. Fits the look of my gun well. I'd take a look at the Sparc AR that just came out.

I went with Magpul front and rear sights on my pistol.  I wanted something that was a little lighter than aluminum and would fold.  I'm happy with them.

I'm also looking at a red dot, and trying to find the smallest one I can find that will still be within budget.
