Here's pics of my A2-ish rifle. I like the looks of a 604 upper but like A2 sights.

I slapped this on another lower but the only difference would be an A2 grip on the future lower.

RRA 9MM A2 upper (drilled)
Colt C MP Chrome Bore A1 barrel
A1 flash hider
Peel washer
USGI A2 handguards
Colt bolt carrier (no fwd assist serrations) & BCM bolt

Nice.

It was my impression that the A2 uppers made without the forward assist were made for M16A2 LMG variant.

Edit: I see that upper does not have the brass deflector, I stand corrected. That would be a 9mm upper.

Ha! I'm not gonna lie I think that did give me some inspiration.

I really like this gun and can't wait to try it out.

Thanks for all the compliments fellas.

What do you think for a sling:

- black silent sling
- OD canvas/cotton Garand sling
- leather 1907 sling
- Turner Saddlery biothane
- Blue Force Gear (please specify)

Blue Force Gear(or VTac) for sure. After using a sling with quick adjust, you won't want to use anything else!

Please no leather, that makes me cringe

I would second the VTAC or the silent sling.

I really do like this. This is a great idea.
I think I have one or two of the 9mm A2 uppers in storage.
Maybe a rifle and a carbine?
This will be fun to put together.
Pencil barrels are what I will use on them. Help to keep the lighter.
I was going to build some 9mm with them but, I already have some of them I put together.
So, Now the hunt for parts again in storage.
It is too hot to get in there so, it may be the fall to start looking.

Thanks for the pictures and the information.

Ron

Note: No slings, I hate slings on a rifle.
1st thing I did was lose the sling on issued rifles, they catch on every thing at the wrong time.

Not to hijack your thread but I used a similar idea when I built my dedicated .22 Lr. carbine.  It is an RRA 9mm A2 upper receiver with a CMMG 16:1 pencil barrel and BCG.  The lower receiver is just stock A2 with a generic CAR receiver extension and stock.
If you look close the pistol grip is A2 with the finger bump removed.  It weighs less than 6 lb and is way fun to shoot.

I really like it.  I bet it's pretty darn light.  I'm guessing a bit under 7 pounds?

I ended up going with a silent sling.

Post pics here when you're done.

I have to walk a long way with my guns to shoot so the sling is really helpful.
