This build started in 2012 when I picked up the upper from another member here.  Since the upper was so pristine, I decided to have an 80% blank engraved by Braceman, milled out the fire control pocket myself and had Victor at US Anodizing anodized lower "pre-ban" gray to match upper.  I managed to gather all the parts to finish the build soon thereafter.  But became ill and was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2014.  After two major surgeries and two rounds of chemo over the past 2 and a half years, I'm finally well enough to piece everything together, with a little help from a local Arfcomer (PeachyCarnahan).  The upper is an early FK forge-mark FN A2 upper that has a bluish tint of gray, which is different than the Colt gray anodizing.  Barrel is FNMI stamped M16A2 barrel with non F-marked FSB.  The A2 compensator was timed with period correct shim washers instead of crush.  Bolt carrier is early FN marked and bolt head is marked FN underscore F, so it looks like MPE.  Furniture is USGI fodder, with an F marked A2 pistol grip.  Lower internals are generic brand LPK that received the Naval jelly treatment for lighter gray appearance.  Semi selector is a Colt that has period correct large-tic.  I even found an FN marked USGI mag from my stash and a green canvas sling to finish off the build.  Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics and feel free to critique

I admire your attention to detail.
Educate me please on the A2 grip. Where is the "F" mark located?
Does colt have a simalar mark ?

Engraving is fine work...am I seeing things or is your mag button on backwards?

Great job, and I really like the lower. My FN clone is currently on a LRB lower but I need to get Braceman to engrave a correct one for me. I had him reprofile and engrave an A1 a while back and it's perfect.

@ survivor45:  It's more OCD than attention to detail  You'll find the marking inside pistol grip (see pic below)  Colt A2 PG's are marked with a number 2, 3 or 4 inside a circle and more recent Colt ones are marked F1, F2, F3 etc

@TheStinger:  It's a Kalifornicated Bullet-Button

@MikeE23666: Just a canvas M1 Garand/M14 sling that are still in use by the Marine Corps.  I got mine from Charley's:

1990s state of the art 3-point sling on mine. All the cool kids had them.

I don't remember who made it, but both the sling and Blackhawk mag pouch were on my FN A2 during my Bosnia vacation.

Positively, breathtakingly gorgeous rifle.  If is was a woman I'd want to marry her!  Well done. sir.  And, no there are not many like it.  Not with the attention to detail, fit and finish in your work.

Great looking build!

I plan to follow this path with my original FN M16A2 barrelled upper.

Very nice, OP.  If you're a Marine, then you need a proper Marine Corp bayonet:

I'm not exactly sure when the Corps adopted the OKC-3S, but our company were issued USMC marked M9's made by Buck in '92.  Can't recall when our issued M9 bayonets were made, but got them brand-new in plastic bags.  When I got out (long story), the A2's were getting replaced by the A4's.

Not every grunt unit got M9s....as they were only fielded as a test.  I was with 3/6 in '92 and we had them along with M7s.   We wound up breaking most of the M9s and went back to M7s.

Here is my 'A2 clone from around '96.  It's the oldest legible databook of mine I could find...

I got out in Sep 91 from 3/1.  I never heard of the M9.
