I want to build a 100% Colt A2 Carbine with new 14.5" M4 barrel.  Im going to be using a LE6920 lower with the M4 CARBINE stamp. Should it have 6/3 or 8/3 elevation markings? Unfortunately it will have to have a F marked front but ill shorten the sight like I did with my A1 Carbine I built with Colt M4 barrel. Ill buy a LE6920-OEM1 and sell the complete upper. or should I get a OEM2 for a full float handguard. what be more sellable?

The XM-4's would have the 8/3 elevation markings because they were built with rifle uppers, which came with the 8/3 elevation marked rear sight assemblies.  The 6/3 elevation marked rear-sights came about later during the development of the removable carry handles for use with flat-top uppers.  Hope this helps.

ok thanks. Iv decide to just make a A2 Carbine as if they made it today. Ill use a new Colt A2 stripped upper receiver. I can't seem to find any assembled used ones in new shape. the only differance between a new M4 will be the A2 Receiver and semi auto.

I will. be some time though as most of the Colt parts are back ordered or probably not stocked. Brownells

You will also want to a non-F marked FSB if you want to be anal retentive.

I used the taller F marked FSB with A1 front sight, that came with Daniel Defense 14.5" barrel.  Zeroed out to 100, excellent sight picture (actually prefer it to my SP1 carbine… too much sight post exposed).

As stated above, 8/3 for fixed handle M4s.

The 6/3 is for detachable handle rear sights. Someone correct me if I'm wrong since I don't have either 6/3 or 8/3 parts in front of me at the moment, but I believe the 8/3 stem is a little longer.

Putting a 6/3 in a A2 receiver may fit, but you're just shorting yourself of rear sight adjustment.

the base threads on the 6/3 and finer than the threads on the 8/3. The 14.5" barrel is only good out to 600m anyway. the pictures look the same height so both should fit

and another $150 to buy the 8/3 sight

I decided that since all the Colt A2 carbines had 8/3 ill go with it.
