I just need a confirmation.
The F height as compared to the standard height is only required if you use a detachable carry handle - right?

That is correct.  The F marked base is 0.04" taller to compensate for the higher aperture on the detachable carry handle.  With the non marked sight base the same sight pin can be used but the flange will not be flush with the top of the base.  Taller sight pins are available from several manufacturers.
