That looks just like a rifle I saw in Gander Mountain on the used rack for $1699. Scope and cheek rest and all.
Well it did not have the 1911 delta Quoted:
Hi Folks Finished my build, found a NOS 6601 upper on the EE (thanks Rick) and that was all she wrote. Can't believe I waited this long (25+ years) for this! Everything's Colt, except the lower (NDS) Scope is original with mount (ebay) Stock original Colt Pistol grip is Colt with Colt 1911 medallions countersunk and installed by John at Retro Arms. http://i60.tinypic.com/2jetcv4.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/4v5qi1.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/v8pw6h.jpg The only other things left is the Colt marked sling, and possibly switching the small head F/A to a NOS big head I got off the boards too, as the lower is a A1. Oh and a harris stud on the handguard. Just love this thing, it's a time machine! :) View Quote |

Damn fine rifle! I haven't seen those rubber armored scopes in very long time.

Nice one. I was pursuing a rubber armor for a while but lost interest.

very cool
btw, who made the original scopes for the Delta rifle and what power were they? |

It supposedly has range finding capabilities, despite being just a duplex reticle. I may upgrade to a Leupold M3 one day, but the rubber coated one is such a classic now. Hoping to smell some burned match ammo powder out of this one sometime in April :) |

Hoping to smell some burned match ammo powder out of this one sometime in April :) Range finding with a duplex reticle is easy. It's just a matter of knowing what the thin portion of the reticle covers at various ranges and knowing the sizes of things. I made a chart for my 3x9 Leupold on my elk rifle for 4x and 8x based on the depth of an elks chest. |

I have 2 of those ARMS scope mounts in a box somewhere.

Nice Build! Those ARMS Mounts that were made specifically for this rifle are somewhat rare and it is a satisfying accomplishment. Great Job!

I decided I'd like to build a Delta HBAR clone-ish rifle. I've got an A.R.M.S. carry handle mount and a beat-to-shit authentic Colt Delta HBAR cheek piece. I'll use an HBAR with CMP-type free float tube & A2 handguards combined with a surplus FN upper and Geissele trigger. Anyone know a source for a new Delta HBAR-type cheek piece, even if it's a Cherokee one or whatever? I'd want one that's the same shape as a Colt, however. Also, what scope & rings would you all recommend in lieu of a Colt rubber armored? http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb179/rasmuspa/Delta%20HBAR_zpsdt9mniev.jpg View Quote I would suggest and ARMS #2 with ARMS stanag rings and a Leupold M3 for the scope. That should work nicely! I haven't found a cherokee A2 cheek piece lately, I had one but sold it like a dummy! for stupid cheap too.... keep checking ebay though they do pop up from time to time and someone had real colt in near new for less than $150 with a colt a2 stock a few months ago. E&L mfg make a very inexpensive cheekpiece for the A2 stocks $20? but its not Delta style though... Good luck, and be sure to post your build! |

Well done sir! I have a 6601 I bought new back in the day. Complete A2 furniture and upper with an SP slap side lower. It has the small head forward assist button so yours isn't period incorrect. FWIW |

Damn fine rifle! I haven't seen those rubber armored scopes in very long time. I have one sitting in my safe out of curiosity what is the scope and mount worth ? Hard to say as it depends on the buyer. I bought the 3x9 on the 223 for $200 on ebay, Next week another one sold for $350. The 4x on my 9mm Delta was $75 and it was on the boards for a long time. So timing and demand I suppose? |
