Y'all know I like my POF rifles.

This is one that I plan to have.  It is a 308 that is lighter than most of my 5.56mm ARs.

I looked at it and fondled it at Shot Show last week and I remain impressed with what I felt and saw.

1.   16" barrel is 6.75lbs.  The 10.5" is around 6.2
2.  Ambidextrous lower as expected from POF.
3.   The gas block is a 9 position gas block.
4.   The rail. Narrow and low profile. Unlike anything you have seen from POF
5.  Trigger.  One of POFs in house triggers.  Feels great.

One question.    Can I open the gas up enough to have it cycle subsonic 308?   Didn't think to ask!

I walked around SHot Show and no one had a 6.75" 308, piston or otherwise.  DPMS with their G2 may be the only one close.

So, the question is . . . Does this impact the 6.8/6.5 markets?   I think it does.

A couple of videos I did at Shot Show 2016:

And the 16"

Very interesting.  Has MSRP been released?

I was told it will be less than the P308

Looks interesting. What did they do to shave the weight? Is it forged or billet? When do they expect to start shipping? I couldn't really tell but it looked like there was a CMC trigger in there or is POF coming out with a new straight blade trigger too?

Thanks. It would be nice for POF to update their website with this.

It is a POF trigger.  They have been making their own triggers for a few years now.

Yep, they make a very good trigger pack.  I'm using 3 of them in different builds.

That is quite the weight savings!

Called POF today to ask about pricing and availability. Was told it won't be out until fall of this year. They're still working on the design and specs. The SHOT guns was a prototype. I asked how they got the weight savings and was told it's still under wraps for now but at release they'd give out more information.

Was also told the 300 WM will be shipping in April/May timeframe with a msrp of around $3,500

Pof  new 308 was way more impressive then the other 308 that are out there..  Manufactures are running scared now, Daniel Defense new 308 at 8.5 pounds is not so light now.

Sub 7lbs .308 piston rilfe? I'm very curious to find out from where they are gaining such impressive weight savings. The stock is a hockey stick, but that could only really amount to maybe a 1/2lb or so on the scale.

Lighter aluminum alloy? Internals milled out with honey comb structure?

Now they've got my attention.Compared to the the older versions that, to me, handled like a boat anchor, this model looks like a game changer.

Looks like they went G2 pattern, and got rid of the ridiculous forearm backbone system for a more traditional barrel nut mounted forearm.

Big weight savings with the small receiver pattern, bolt carrier, and bolt.  If they spend the time tuning the gas system to actually be smaller (and work), then they could pull lots of weight out of the carrier and buffer assembly.  Looks to be a smaller diameter forearm tube, and the gas block looks to be way smaller then previous generations.

Looking at the back of the receiver, it looks like it may be even shorter than the G2.

I don't know how they can get below about 7.5 lbs without sacrificing sub MOA accuracy and reliability. Frankly, I'd like to see something like the Puritan piston rifle in .308. I could see that becoming their new primary rifle line with a little extra $ for upgrades like 12" or 15" free float keymod rails and muzzle brake options. They might not be "bombproof" like the current design but they'd be much lighter and the best rifle for the money at a reduced price point... and still run for tens of thousands of rounds without fail. They'd take over the market.
