I do have a ffl and its hardcoat anodized Type III ?.......as in the good stuff......processed at 28-32 degrees good stuff? When can I send you my xm177e2 engraved lower? OP--I think you're onto something, too. I've anodized before--that is some serious hard coat. Good color, too. Not perfect, but I have no doubt you will nail it!
Nicely done! |

View Quote From the look of the pics, there is no "worst case ". That's something to be proud of, I am a little jealous. Also, too lazy to put the effort into the skill, truth be told. |

I can't wait for another option. I have a transferable hydramatic lower I need refinished and I've been trying to find someone to do it for almost 6 months. The original finish kind of had a green hint to it. But I just don't want it jet black anymore.

I want to show the hue of green and the gray. Any ideas on taking picture with my phone to show colors?

View Quote It's hard to catch the true colors in a photo, and when (if) you do, the pics look different on all of our monitors/phones, anyway. When I used to anodize parts, what I did that worked pretty well, was put a Sharpie marker along with the part(s) in the picture, for reference. We all know what the black cap and gray body of the marker truly look like and can use that as a general "gauge" to judge the color of the other parts in the picture. John Thomas |

View Quote What about taking pics with the "sample" (your anodizing) alongside a known color sample? For instance, one of your anodized lowers alongside a Colt lower of a particular time period. I have an early XM16E1 lower (demilled front half) and a later M16A1 front half (greenish in color). If you don't have any demilled lowers to use I would gladly send my two to you to use for pictures. You can send them back to me on my dime when you ship an anodized lower back. ( HINT HINT ) |

That greenish color looks very similar to some of the prototype FN SCAR's, and also an older LWRC color that they called "MRE", which would be desirable to a different market. So don't loose that formula.

HKILLER,
Given the garbage "finding" by the ATF against having an ENGRAVED faux auto sear pin hole on a lower, does this mean you will no longer even attempt to start anodizing lowers for others if the lowers sent to you have that marking? What about the markings for "AUTO" or "BURST?" Will this now also be precluded as well? |
