I see no collar...no pockets...no hangers for M-1910 gear at the bottom and three snap buttons.

Looks like Korean War vintage hard plate.  I think the Marines used it in the 50s.

Actually that looks exactly like the jacket a buddy of mine has who served in the first parts of Vietnam while in the Coast Guard doing rescue operations in the early part of the war, as does the copter behind him in that picture, I know Chuck's vest is very minimalist with no provisions for hanging gear because they didn't figure they were going to end up in combat at that time.

MOH recipient William Pitsenbarger

It was early in the war, he died April 11, 1966.

His vest looks "soft" with no plates...it has three snap buttons not 4 like on the M-1951.

They can be a bit slow. Check your spam folder too just in case.

I don't have much time lately but I will save the pic and see about posting it when I can. (Or when I remember which can be an iffy thing as I get older.)

I did it now so I wouldn't forget.

Reclick the link.

Survey says! Korean era Marine Corps Aviation Jacket.

Here's a link to the Time article mentioned. That link is dead so I found a new one.

Yankee Papa 13

I know'ed they would know! Not as much traffic at that site but there is a butt ton of knowledge about the most ancient and arcane things there!

Great!

They are a FONT of knowledge over there!

Each subsection has their own "resident experts" and I have never seen any disinformation from the senior members there.

I can't tell you how many hours I have wasted just clicking and drooling over there! (much like here!)

Enjoy!
