** UPDATED ** Below I have included links to places that have I found currently selling complete A1 rear sight sets and some companies selling available parts separately.  I have also included a list of some companies that DO NOT have sets available since people seem to think these companies have sets in stock when they do not.  This information was helpful to me and hopefully it will be helpful to others as well.  I will update if I notice any information or availability of items changes.

Good post.  Thank you.

The Gunbroker links didn't load for me, but am on work computer.  Presume there is an issue on my end.

Am shocked at the prices!

From my research this is basically most of what is out there for sale besides what pops up on EE.  Amherst was selling nos GI sets on GunBroker but they don't have them listed any more.  I purchased some of their sets and two out of five had poorly machined windage drums so I became a little hesitant on buying more when they were still available.

Many people on here have been saying for months that Bushmaster would soon be selling A1 rear sight sets.  After reading this in posts over and over the past couple months and yet still not seeing any sets being sold by Bushmaster I figured it was time to contact them myself and validate this rumor.  Below is my email message to them and their response.

My email content to Bushmaster:

Hi, Do you have the A1 style complete rear sight sets currently available or do you know if they will be available in the near future?
Thank you, Rob

Bushmaster's response email content to me:

"Hello sir, thank you for contacting Bushmaster arms. no sir we are not currently producing the a-1 sights and we do not have plans to produce them in the future.
Thank you and best regards,
Bushmaster Firearms
"

As you can see Bushmaster DOES NOT sell the sets and WILL NOT be selling the sets anytime soon.  So this rumor has been busted also meaning that all we have available to us as far as new sets and most of the used sets for sale currently are listed in my original post above.  And if you are waiting on Bushmaster to sell them I think you are going to be waiting a long time.....

Could you tell us how the Amherst drums were poorly machined ?  out of spec ?  Just cosmetic ?

I have a couple I haven't opened yet and am curious what to expect.  Thanks.

ETA:  Great info in your post. It was much needed to know who was outta stock.  Prices are getting scary.

Two out of the five sets I got from them had really bad machined grooves on the numbered face side of the windage drum.  A friend of mine got one or two that way also.  Plenty useable just cosmetically not appealing.  It almost gives the appearance that they were well used and adjusted over and over again in a careless manor except that they are brand new and were machined that way.

Brownells has them listed in their catalog and even on their website but they are out of stock and not actually available anymore, not even for back order.  Link below:

The price is right just be careful with the windage drums.  I got two poorly machined ones from them that looked too bad to use and my friend got one crappy one also.  I recommend if you purchase their kits ask them to check and inspect them before shipping.  Plus I'm starting to have some doubts on them being original USGI sets since when I last checked their website it stated they were waiting on parts to complete sets and now they have complete original sets in stock again, Seems a little fishy.  I have a feeling they are packaging these sets and marketing them as original USGI sets from 1974.  It might also explain the odd numbering font on the windage drums.

I bought the sights from Amherst Depot and got them today. Here are the pics.    The one with two drums are for comparison. The top drum is off of an older M16A1 upper.  I notice the number stamping looks different.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             " />
