Thanks guys! I am happy with it, I do think I like the gold square forge a little better on the 177 barrel though. I may try this one out and see though.
As for taking this off vs other arsenal or field coatings,
I have noticed the Dry film Lube comes off best with dry cleaning solvents and rubbing real hard with a rag or your thumb.
This was my first experience trying to remove what I believe was Solid film Lube. It has or appeared to be an epoxy type binder. The above method of chemicals friction and elbow grease seemed to work. IMO the brass brush is the best to help remove the coating without damaging the aluminum or anodizing. Like heavy metal said aluminum and steel wool are not good for each-other fibrous abrasives are the preferred method
M16Indiana:
If I remember correctly your 601 upper has the black wrinkle coat arsenal stuff. I yet to know of anyone who has successfully removed that stuff without blasting and refinishing. I would like to know an I have a 605 that needs that stuff off!
As for other epoxy type coatings, I have only tried to remove what I believe to be Norrels from an early square forge 603...
I could not get it off either. I will try again though.
I have read Dads works well but haven't bought any.
Who has more experience with this and can enlighten us? VAAR?
